I agree with this, and I think you could go up to $10 MM-$11 MM with a team option (or non-guaranteed) in year 2-3.
I am curious if Bynum is in Morey's plans at all as a backup plan. Privately, this could very well be the case. The media is all over our interest in Dwight/CP3, but Morey sometimes keeps his best tricks (i.e. Harden, Martin) to himself.
I love Bynum, but I think he will be hurt by his injuries for the rest of his career. Big men and those injuries WE KNOW don't mix well. I love him, and maybe would give him a 1-3 year deal with team option. (Don't know the team option rules, but I'd have quite a bit of incentives if he was signed, I.E. playing X amount of games, make the playoffs, lead the L in Blocks/rebounds etc.) To me that is a contract Bynum will get is an incentive based contract where he can get a bit more money on top of what he is signed for. I know probably all players have this (as James Harden's contract mentioned this via Bimathug I believe) Dwight has his injuries too, but he just played injured and played a lot of games this year, and Bynum didn't. Bynum's stock is pretty low, but bc the lack of supply of quality big men, the demand and his price is still going to be very high. Bynum came into the L with nothing, and developed into a strong Center in today's game. Right now though I don't know if Bynum is much better than Asik (who plays, and seems to be adjusting just like Bynum did when he finally got his chance) *A lot of people here are taking Asik's double double year for granted. The supply of great big men is about 3 in today's NBA market. I'll take Dwight, but Morey needs to think long, and hard if we don't get Dwight, and say does this guy make us "X amount better" than if we have Asik out there.
I def. see this, and then throw in incentives for him, by whoever ends up signing him. Also look for the teams (not POSITIVE ON THIS, but believe they could) that have not amnestied their "one player allowance over the course of the CBA), and watch those teams JUMP all over BYNUM. Those teams could gamble with a big contract give him 3 years, or whatever, and then toss him. (Not positive on that though, as I think the amnesty situation may have been for players that were on the team when the new CBA was put in place, I've somewhat forgot the one time amnesty rules, in regards to the new CBA)
LMAO, so true, gosh this guy just doesn't and never has CARED about basketball. He is just good at it. Dunno if he has the heart that a lot of the greats do. He just has height, and god given talent!
