If he is healthy he is a very good up and coming center.

he's 20 years old he doesnt need the burden of being the top post option. This is probably better for him.

The kid bothers me at how cocky he is.

After his dunk on Shaq he shoved him first. You have nothing on Shaq...one of the best players of all time, show some respect.

Better off, respect your teammates you piece of crap

Just watch him...he hasn't accomplished ****, and he talks to coach and teammates like that

    Overrated? Not at all!

His potential is great and could potentially be the second coming of Darko. Sheer greatness!

Oh my, I'm getting goosebumps already.

Bynum has loads of potential there is no doubt about that. He certainly would have helped against the Celtics but the way the Lakers played in the Finals I don't think it would have made a difference in the end. In general I do think the media overrates him.

Bynum had what? 1 decent half season? Guys are already putting him up at the Top Centers list. How long did it take for Yao to get respect? And he put up better numbers in his 2nd year.

He's going to be good (IF HEALTHY), but with the way the Laker fans talk, they think he's the second coming of Jesus or something.

Thats different. I don't even think Dwight is on par with Yao, but at least the dude is always healthy and therefore could be considered more reliable.

You know, he is overated right now? Did the poster ask for his future? No. e said he is CURRENTLY overrated for somebody who hasnt done much.

Besides, the games he played in are against junk teams. I think 14 out of the 20 games he played against were teams with losing records or didnt make the play offs...

And we are talking about a Lakers team without a Pau Gasol so I think you are taking stats a bit too far especially when the Lakers dont have anybody to really rebound

Why is everything about Yao? There was an NBA before Yao and in that league the press always overrrated Lakers role players.

If Bynum's one of the top centers in the league, then Al Jefferson is the 2nd coming of Wilt.

    http://www.nba.com/statistics/playe...itScope=GAME&qualified=N&yearsExp=-1&splitDD=

Going by NBA efficiency stat, top 3 centers in the league are:

Amare, Dwight, Yao. Bynum's number 7, but has the least amount of MPG in the top 10.

I expect Bynum's numbers to stay around the same or worse next year because Gasol will take more of his possessions and rebounds.

I'm posting cold. I haven't read any posts in this thread because the thread title seems ridiculous to me. I'd like to know who has ever "overrated" Bynum? He's just a very young 2 1/2 year player who was doing very well before his season was cut short. Nobody in their right mind thinks he's a top-level center right now. He's still immature and gets down on himself too often, though less than before.

The real discussion is about his potential, which I think is quite high. His year to year improvements should make Lakers fans smile. My main concern is how he reacts after signing his first long-term big-money contract. If Bynum stays motivated and keeps working on his game, this guy will be a dominant post scorer in a couple of years. Right now, he doesn't deserve mention with Yao, Dwight Howard and Amare. But that will change.

I hear it everyday. I've heard it every day since March. I've heard it every hour since the Lakers lost the Finals.

yes, the team will be better with AB playing center.

no, they will not be championship caliber because of a 20 year old who bareley averaged a double double for 20-30 games.

They are already competing for the championship this year. They took the Celtics to 6 games. Are you saying that with a healthy Bynum and one more year for him to improve, they won't be contending again?

I am a certified Lakers hater. I really hate to see them good. But man they are good after that Gasol robbery.
