Until Andrew Bynum can out do Yao, he is still meaningless to me the kids only 20 somethign thats what everyone sayes oh please the media just loves the Lakers just because sales.
No I'm not kidding, There was one game in the playoffs where Dwight was held under 10 pts, and it was another game where he was either held under 10 or got 12 pts. Until he develops a low post move then he will always be overrated.
Yeah I know I'm a Yao fan but I'm not biased I just hate Andrew Bynum this and that the kid has done nothing at all so far.
No team doubles AB and Howard, Yao sees doubles all the time As for overrating Bynum or not, I don't think it's wrong to look at a 20 year old kid and have high hopes for him. But at the same time, I've been to the Laker fan forum a few times and ....well the words I've read there really want to make me say somethings but meh
both of Bynum and Howard cant create their own shots as well as Yao does. So to say Bynum is the saver of Lakers, Yes. that's overated. To say Howard is the best center in the league, Yes. that's overated as well.
Bynum has never played close to a full season like a star so for now he is way over hyped. If he played for anyone but the Lakers or Knicks, you wouldn't hear even hear his name. Howard is a beast on the boards and also young. Until it takes a double team for him to average his career high of 20 points/game that come from nothing but dunks he's not even in Yao's league either. His monster slam dunks and blocks that fly in the stands give him more ESPN clips. Amare Stoudomaire plays like Howard, using his raw power. Playing with Steve Nash, he doesn't get enough attention for what he does. Though he still needs to develop some more post moves before being considered a great center. Having to play the 4 spot more next year should help him evolve. Elton Brand is probably the most under hyped center, though he missed last year. He'll give you a solid 20/10 every night and you can't ask for much more from someone. As for Yao, he's the only center that teams really have to create a different defensive strategy than they ever use and execute properly or they're gonna have a really bad night. I really don't know big his hype is being that i live in a biased Houston. However, i do think he should be considered the best. I haven't seen anyone else command his post presence since Shaq in his prime.
As everyone else says, he is overrated because he was proclaimed to be a star just because he had half a good season. He's a solid player, no doubt, but he has yet to prove much.
Any center or big man such as Duncan, Shaq, KG and etc are all underrated on this board due to an obvious reason. But yes, Andrew Bynum is overrated but he doesn't suck either. He shot 63.6% and averaged 10 rebounds in just 29 minutes played per game. Even tho it was only for 35 games, he played extremely well for a 20 years old.
Im not underrating Shaq or TD at all, they are both better than Yao in their primes and have rings to prove it, but AB and Howard don't and to me, they are currently overrated. Howard just gets alot of open dunks, much like Landry. Personally I think Landry is overrated on this board outside of his hustle. His game just hasn't evolved yet. AB is much like Landry where it is mostly unseen potential, but saying he is a team's savior is like saying Landry is our 3rd scoring option next season...
Well I said yes, but the real answer is not sufficient information. That said there seems a lot of people high on him. He is very young and showed flashes. That said, even if he is pretty good next year, it doesn't necc make the Lakers much better. If they play Bynum, Gasol and Odom they are going to be very quickness and shooting challenged. And then I can't imagine a backup group of Walton, VR, Turiaff (if resigned), Arizra and Sasha (if resigned) being content withg peanuts PT either. I forsee chemistry problems in the Lakers front line next year. Unless they can somehow trade Odom + maybe one of Walton or VR for an upgrade true SF (swingman who can shoot well and D up--find their own Battier/young Bowen type). On the other hand if they trade Odom, I think they will miss a lot of things he does. Will trading him be a net plus or minus, hard to know. In sum, I see the Lakers having major roster questions and it is not obvious the right move to improve chemistry and their overall strengths.
nobody is saying bynum is the savior. He would possibly be the third best player on the lakers next year.
I just don't seeing Gasol and Bynum playing together with any kind of chemistry. If anything Bynum is going to regress next year. You can only have one "main" post player on the team, and that role is Gasol's. Bynum is going to be relegated to the offensive rebounds and garbage points.
