He's terrible as a roll man and we run a pick and roll heavy offense.

    Simple enough.

Utah has enough cap room to claim him off waiver.

He has his flaws. But he's also an excellent defender and rebounder who can address our biggest weakness. You have to roll the dice when someone like this becomes available.

Rather roll the dice on non injury prone, 4 years younger, superior rim protector Larry Sanders. We do have John Lucas after all.

Boston was desperate for a rim protector and they didn't sign Sander. Not even a 10 day contract. This tells me Sanders is not in good shape.
Bogut is a more proven player and we can get him for free. It really is a no brainer for me.

I think we may be the only teams offering a starter role (or very solid minutes) between those, fwiw...maybe Boston too...

If it's that simple why are the Rockets after him from the begin of the season? I think they know better than us.

Personally i think Bogut would still be the best post defender and rim protector in this roster, best screener and passer between our bigs, smartest and dirtiest (which something we lack) too...i see no reason why we shouldn't want to add him at this point. And i guess these are good enough reasons why the Rockets fo wants him in the first place :/

He is exceptional at setting screens and getting proper spacing and passing. He would offensively fit what we do well.

    Defensively he is simply elite.

I don't like him as a person and health is a concern. However if he is willing to sign with the Rockets; they have to take the risk.

Yeah, I'm not sure I agree with you. How can Bogut be the bigger risk? At least he's never quit, had drug and law issues. Look, I'm not banging the drum for Bogut, he's a horrible human being, apparently. He basically quit on Dallas and that obviously says something about who he is and where he's at right now. So I'm in no rush to bring Bogut here to take away minutes from guys that have earned them and disrupt chemistry.

That said, we all know Sanders history and history says his past is pretty damn checkered. So I'm playing devils advocate a bit with all of this. I'm definitely someone who feels like people deserve second chances, but for all of you acting like it's a no brainer, it's not. Sanders talent level and skill set is a no brainer, but the person is not; at least not yet.

A couple Sanders quotes from a story last year stand out to me...

"You want to see me create? Watch me play defense," he said. "Because I'm thrilled by it. I love playing defense, I love watching how guys move and who's on the cut. I love anticipating blocks. I love contesting shots, altering shots. I love it. I love guarding somebody. I hate if someone scores on me—I hate that! I'm driven by it, man. It fuels me."

But then there is this one too and it came after the quote above...

"What any team would have to accept from me, if they want me, is everything that comes with me," he said. "All of my projects and everything I want to do. If that's something they're willing to not just deal with but understand that it's part of me and this is what he brings to the table. It's not just this dreaming kid who wants to do all of these things. He's actually doing it. He's not just our basketball player. He's really good at basketball, but he's not just our basketball player. He's a human who has things that he wants to do."

So all and all, I'd love for Sanders to get a shot with the Rockets if he was going to be able to handle it all. But... How can you not take a look at this situation and have serious questions that he would or could?

It's really not about one over the other with me, I'm trying to look at this from all angles. Bringing in either one of these guys is a risk. I trust the organization will do their due diligence and if they bring one in I'd hope that it would work out. Plain and simple.

Sanders is a big question mark in the locker room. I know Bogut has had skirmishes with us but just like Pat I'm sure he'd be a great teammate if he landed here.

Here's how I hope Morey is rating potential C pickups,

    1. Bogut
    2. Blatche
    3. Sanders

Great post. Sounds more like a guy that belongs on a team that's okay being mediocre. We can't afford to have a guy that's not going to be 100% concentrated during a potential championship run. I pass on Sanders. He definitely played well that one year but would rather not have that headache.

I don't think the Rockets have shown any interest in Sanders. Does anyone have a link that says they've talked to him or worked him out? Sanders just seems like wishful thinking by over eager Rox fans.

Bogut is an ass. It's hard to know how well he'll play given motivation and injury issues. Plus he probably goes to CLE so it's a moot point.

Maybe look for a D league C that could play 10 min emergency minutes if needed. Try to find a SF stopper from cuts or d league.

Sanders worked out for Boston 3 weeks before he worked out for the Cavs and went through workouts with a professional trainer in Miami during those 3 weeks.

Cavs don't play the same the of pick and roll heavy offense we do. Bogut wants a "significant role" and we would be asking him to be the 4th C.

Reports have been that he ended on bad terms with management/players in GS and he ended on bad terms with Dallas. We just got our chemistry back right after Dwight, don't want to go through that again.

For all his mistakes off court, all reports have been that Sanders isn't a cancer in the locker room, and he would be more likely to accept such a limited role.

Sam Amico, who is the beat guy in Cleveland, said Sanders reps told the Cavs that 17 teams showed interest in him but he wanted a shot on the Cavs most.

The team as is , is great, why not just pick up a unknown name and work him into the system. some who is a unknown and can rebound. Bogut seems like bad juju..

The Rockets need strength and length in the front court. Yes, we do play small ball a lot, but we've seen too many Rockets players get pushed out of position under the basket. A better perimeter defender would help, but evidently the Rockets brass decided to go all in on offense. Lou, Gordon, Harden, Anderson. Those guys aren't staying in front of anyone on the perimeter, so we need an anchor at center. The problem is the center is usually the only rebounder. If he's out of position to help on defense, we're going to get outrebounded. Even if the Rockets rotated perfectly, you'd have a guard trying to box out the opposing center. To counter this, our center MUST make the defensive play on the driver. Not necessarily a block, but make sure the ball doesn't make it to the other side of the rim. That'll improve our chances at rebounding if the perimeter defender runs to the spot.

Bogut fits better than Sanders in this regard just because he is stronger. I don't think the likes of KAT and DeAndre can move Bogut like they can Capela. Sanders might have great defensive instincts, but I think he'll get pushed around easily. He's basically Capela. Except Sanders has been out 2 years. He's also claimed he lost love for the game when he left.

But the reality is that whoever we get will be at a low cost. So I'm just going to play the wait game and let it unfold. We need a big. I hope we don't try and go after someone like Calderon (who's reportedly expected to sign with GSW). If anything, get a plus defender on the perimeter. That will also help with the rebounding woes simply by not requiring our only rebounder on the floor to play out of position.
