alot of that are signing bonus and other bonus'...as a base salary, he is in the top tier. that being said, maybe they could structure additional bonus into the current deal to appease him.
The thing is, he isn't. The latest from Rotoworld: Andre Johnson is sitting out Texans voluntary OTAs over displeasure with his contract. Johnson signed a team-friendly, eight-year, $60 million deal in 2007. A first-team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons and the NFL's best wide receiver, A.J. is undoubtedly underpaid in comparison with the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, and Brandon Marshall bull.... ****... lol underpaid in comparison to Fitzgerald, Williams(Roy) and Marshall? IF I have these numbers right, here are the comparisons... Fitzgerald: 2008: Signed a four-year, $40 million contract w/NTC. - $30 mill guarenteed, $15 million signing bonus. - 2009: $1.6 million + $9 million option bonus + $3.1 million roster bonus = $13.7 million - 2010: $6.3 million - 2011: $7 million - 2012: Free Agent Williams: - 2008: Signed a six-year, $54 million contract - $27 million guarenteed - 2010: $13 million - 2011: $5.1 million - 2012: $6.8 million - 2013: $8.5 million - 2014: $9 million Marshall: - 2010: signed a five year, $47.3 million contract - $12.5 million guarenteed, $5.5 million in signing bonus - 2010: $4 million - 2011: $6.5 million + $3 million roster bonus - 2012: $9 million, - 2013-2014: Under Contract - 2015: Free Agent now ... Andre Johnson - 2007: signed an eight-year, $60 million contract - $15 million guaranteed - 2010: $5.8 million - 2011: $6.8 million - 2012: $7.3 million - 2013: $7 million - 2014: $7.3 million - 2015: Free Agent throw out williams, who isn't an elite WR and Andre's fairly well-paid.
like leroy said, guaranteed is whats important. but total salary on that link are deceptive because it includes a signing bonus if you happen to have signed that year. in 07 and 08 Andre received a signing bonus of around 6.5 mill, plus his base salary. (which i'm not sure why they split up his signing bonus over 2 years...but whatever.) The other bonus' is where you would add some additional money, but those are typically performance based so there is no guarantee that you will get those. As a player, from most important to least, i'd want signing bonus #1, base salary #2, and performance bonus' #3...unless you're Ricky Williams
Roy Williams will make more than Andre this yr? He's not better than our #3 receiver (Jones) and Williams is maybe the 4th best wr on his own team (Austin, Crayton, Bryant)
everyone loved him and thought he had a great year coming back early. He did bust his butt and played pretty well that year.
Huh?? He had a disastrous injury, and there were HUGE questions about his health, and whether or not he would be the same player. These are two COMPLETELY different situations......like, ZERO similarities. Your statement is pretty mind-boggling. Lol.
Pay him elite status, but with one condition, andre has to fire his crazy uncle. It's him who is putting things in his head.
I'm not comparing the players in the light of performance but the light of fan perception. I asked a question about how people will react. Andre is a fan favorite and so was Robinson. Do you think the fans will treat him like Robinson? that's all I'm saying.
Andre is just as good as Larry......if not, better. Steve Smith, Antonio Bryant, Greg Jennings, Roddy White all got paid more than him last year. Ridiculous.... I have never really agreed with hold-outs, but sometimes they are necessary. Especially when you sign a long term, team friendly deal! As mentioned earlier, arguably the best WR, and not a loudmouth........he is worth it to the Texans, they should pay him his fair market value.
