The difference is that there are specific policies that outline how to handle drug violations. There were no specific policies in place to handle choking a coach. I saw what looked like a great Mavericks team go down hard and fast when Roy Tarpley was suspended for two years. We all saw what happened to the Rockets when they lost John Lucas, Mitchell Wiggens and Luise Lloyd to two year drug suspensions over the course of about a year and a half. I don't know if another violation would earn Odem an automatic two year suspension or if he is to that stage yet.
That would be me, oh great one. It is not based solely on his performance though. When someone takes a pay cut in favor of loyalty, you don't stab them in the back and send them off to the Cavs where they can suck it up at the bottom of the Eastern conference with the Bulls.
Unfortunately it's a business. I love the CAT, think he's a great player. BUt, if Popovich was dumb enough to offer me Tim Duncan for Cuttino, all I can say is enjoy the riverwalk Cuttino. That's just the way it is.
Okay, I get the Miller deal done: Houston trades: PF Dan Langhi (1.3 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.1 apg in 6.1 minutes) PF Kenny Thomas (14.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.8 apg in 34.4 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (9.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.3 apg in 28.3 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (19.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.8 apg in 41.8 minutes) Houston receives: PG Andre Miller (16.0 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 10.3 apg in 35.3 minutes) C Michael Doleac (6.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 0.8 apg in 23.3 minutes) SG Wesley Person (14.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.3 apg in 35.1 minutes)
before i start my barrage (what a cool word...barrage) of replies, ill just make a few points 1 - you have to understand where the cavs are. they arent winning now so must make a deal that will help them win later, not now. they cant afford to hurt themselves with a bad contract or a bad move 2 - miller is AWESOME. hes a true pg and just totally kick ass. everyone knows it and teams will be lining up around the corner to get a chance to maybe trade for him. you want him, itll take more than mobley. now back to your regularly schedule posting...
i know if ROCKET FANS can b**** about mobleys play game in and game out, im sure the cavs might see that too. this isnt nba live 2002. when you make a trade, you do your homework. you do extensive research and watch film and talk to many people. you dont look at just stats. trades involve far too much risk to just open up the newspaper and say, "eh, why not?" plus its ANDRE MILLER! if the cavs trade miller for mobley (plus fillers or whatever) lucas gets fired and they lose another 54 fans (which if you think about it, is like 84%) and to ask for the 243...no this makes 244th time, what do you think i see in raef? the ONLY thing ive done is turn down bad deals OR a mobley for raef deal (positioning reason). you guys assume alot.
yeah true, shouldnt be both. too much. but at least griff. give the cavs SOMETHING they can use. something for their future. something to build around.
yes, its true. its all so true. i cant hold it in anymore! im a rockets fan. i was born and raised in houston and by the time i was 2 i was a die hard rockets fan. i mean i DIE HARD. if they lost, i wouldnt watch my cartoons or play with my toys. my first words were "call it ref! what the hell?! that was a friggin foul" anyways, around 1999, the rockets frustrations got too much and i had to move away, so i opened an atlas and randomly picked a city to decide where to move to - albequrque. well i was like screw that. albequrque? who the hell lives there? thats crap. so i picked again. some place in montana. screw that. went on and on for like 16 cities, then finally i got denver. so i became a nuggets fan and tried to push my painful memories of the rockets away permanently. i think subconciously i was drawn to this site and its fans, never fully understanding why. until you posted thus bringing back all those memories i had forgotten. go rockets!
i cant just propose one out of the blue. i need something to build off of... 1 - which team do you want to trade with 2 - why? salary reasons? position reasons? draft picks? need rebounding? something...
if you throw in that first, i think itll get the cavs attention, although they might want to wait until after the season since your pick will get much worse after the trade.
how is cat and griff equal to raef, dice and our first? lol. its more equivalent to nve (cat) and our first (griff). id consider that. but as i posted above, cat and griff is too much. i was wrong about that.
actually i meant the opposite. if you guys can complain about mobley almost daily, then im sure the cavs see those same things too. i dunno about all star caliber. hes good though. already been corrected. you wouldnt trade cat for miller straight up? wow-za! how can you say both reef and brand are better than miller?
consider Griff for a first round? Please. Kiki would dump your first round pick for Griff so fast you would forget you ever had a first round pick! Griffin has superstar written all over him and at 19 years of age Griffin will be dominating in this league for a long time. Maybe McDyess and a first round might at least get the Rockets to listen.
im not say just any ole first rounder. its OUR first rounder. and seeing how we SUCK alot, its a damn good pick. like griff for any college player you want. williams could be as good as griff. you cant say thats not true. both are young and great. "Maybe McDyess and a first round might at least get the Rockets to listen." for griff?
Yes for Griff. Griff will be as good or better than KGarnet. He will be as good as TDuncan. For Griffin to be doing what he is at 19 is not possible but he is doing it and with poise. He has a great stroke from outside, has shown flashes of an inside game, blocks shots like Dream, shoots free throws very well and never gets rocked. He is always calm and cool never seems to panic. Griffin is the perfect ball player. In another year or two Griffin will be a regular in the all star game. McDyess is a veteran that is as good as he will ever get. He is damaged goods on top of that. He is close to an all star but may never play in one if he stays in the west. Griff will be the superior player to McDyess in another year or so. Griff already blocks more shots and rebounds almost as well. When McDyess retires he will be remembered as one of the best in his era. When Eddie retires GMs will be looking for the next Eddie Griffin and they will be making a place for him at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. McDyess is the kind of player you can trade for a high lottery pick. Eddie is the kind of talent that is untouchable when it comes to trade talks. There are no sure things in this years draft. Jason Williams is probably the best coming out but he can not do for the Rockets what Eddie can. When Eddie retires he will have been one of the better big men to have ever played the game.
I think Cat is as good a 2 as Miller is a one. So are you saying that Reef and Brand are not as good as Miller?
NVE would be poison for Cleveland. A disgruntled veteran that has minimal talent around him, in a small market city...that's just begging for turmoil. I can't see a deal involving Mobley happening. The only thing I could see would be if the Rockets win the lotto, and Jason Williams is there. Even then, it's extremely sticky whether the Rockets would want to deal with moving Cat to the bench, Francis to the 2, and sign TWO guys to 100 mill. deals, just hoping that they can co-exist. FWIW, Miller doesn't have as much value as Brand last year: a.) He's closer to his contract extension, meaning he has less time at a cheap price. b.) Brand is a big man, Miller isn't c.) The PG market this year is fairly large compared to last year's PF market. Some rumors say Baron Davis will be available, and Marbury and GP may be on the block. Jason Williams and Frank Williams should go lotto, with guys like Troy Bell, Dickau, Mason Jr., etc. should be first rounders while last year only 2 PGs went in the first round, and the 20s at that. Greater Supply=Less cost. Here's another hypothetical-Miller and Baron Davis are available, at an equal cost-which one would you want?
