the Rockets organization gives a damn if the players are unhappy. Unfortunately, this is the NBA, and Millions aren't enough anymore. If Francis is unhappy, he either won't sign or he'll demand a trade after he signs. that's why we give a damn. I wouldn't want to risk losing Steve. Our team is perfectly fine. Even high-seed playoff fine. Right now, we're a perimeter defender away from home court. One year;s experience for Griffin and Mobley from being even better. Look how much Steve has progressed. he's beenon such a tear leately, and he eneterd the All Star game, and the dunk contest, which he will probably win. Mobley is putting up 20 points a night, Francis is Putting up roughly 21, 6, and 6 a night. Soon, Griffin will be putting up 20, 10, and 3blks. i think we're perfectly fine where we are. there's no reason to think glen Rice can't produce if he puts everything he's got into roughly 25min.game, where T-Mo, Mo-T, and griff pick up the rest of the minutes. There are NO trades available to the Rockets, that will improve them. you can't have an unhappy frnachise player. Just ask Orlando fans. They know.
The only possible way we'd be able to get Miller, is if we land one of the top 2 picks, and the Cavs won't pay Miller what he's worth. It'd be similar to Brand for Chandler last year, assuming our pick could land Jason Williams. But if we wanted to trade down/out, I'd think probably getting a point forward like Odom would be better for the Rockets. And, would trading Jason Williams, who'd make a small salary be worth Andre Miller, who'd make around 10 mill per year, especially considering either way you're going to a small backcourt?
I assume that you mean we as Rockets fans see a lot more in Mobley than the rest of the NBA. I assure you that Mobley is worth a lot on the trade market...even a lottery pick. When Don Nelson was asked about who the best guard in the league was at taking his man off of the dribble Cuttino Mobley was the guard he mentioned. Cat is a legitimate all star caliber scoring threat in the NBA. He is a guard that oppossing teams have to prepare for when designing defensive schemes. If you don't think offering Cat would not perk up the ears of any GM in most trade scenarios then you are the one that has grocely misjudged his talent. Furthermore if you are really implying that Andre Miller is really worth Cat and Eddie then it is you that have lost all touch with reality. Cat is a player that is on the boarder of being an all star. Eddie is someone that might turn into a true superstar. I would not trade Eddie for McDyess straight up. Now personally I would not want to trade Cat for Miller but I would be willing to part with this years lottery pick for him plus maybe some extra players to make it work salery wise. And Nugzfan before you bash that idea remember that both Brand and Shareef were traded for lottery picks and they are both better than Miller. Imagine the Rockets with a lineup next year that looked like this: PG - Miller SG - Francis F - MoT or KT F - Eddie C - Cato Bench: Mooch Cat KT or MoT TMo Oscar Collier or some other option Miller and Francis in the same back court would be lethal. The only problem is would Steve go for it. With Eddie continuing to develope along with Cato finally learning how to play ball at the 5 spot and MoT getting healthy this could be a very dangerous team.
What has this lovey-dovey attitude in the Rocket front office gotten us? Pippen-- over-the-hill greedy jerk FA. Barkley- over-the-hill loveable, fading workhorse FA Elie- at least we had a honeymoon with him before he left as FA. Hakeem- show me the money baby! Gone as a FA. If Houston is such a Mecca for these spoiled NBA crybabies, where are they? We don't have one successful up and coming free agent to show for this alleged "player's franchise." Other than the above, four failed examples where is our free agent bonanza? Still waiting aren't we. This free agent stuff is over-rated. Only Shaq has made that kind of difference. He's a freak and, well, LA is LA-- Hollywood and all that. I don't think Montrose would suffice. We have lousy fan support and a new arena coming. I think a smart, winning team is the way to go. Do you really see us being a smart team with Francis, Mobely, and Moochie running our backcourt?
Nike, the only problem I see with Jason Williams is that he is not known for setting up his teammates. Duhon is normally responsible for that at Duke. Williams is more on the line of a scoring guard like Francis or Iverson. The whole point for wanting a Miller type of point gaurd is to move Francis to the two and get someone that makes very good decissions on the court and is good at getting the ball to his teammates in the best possible possitions at the best possible times with out all of the turnovers. Almost on a nightly bases we see point guards play against Houston that do not make the kinds of mistakes that Steve makes several times a game running this team. Wasted, lost or mis-used posetions is what has ultimately lost us so many games and wasted great performances by Cato, Griffin, Cat, Thomas and Francis. Those wasted possetions can be traced back to mistakes on the part of the point guard or the person responsible for running the team. Andre Miller gives us someone that has proven he can consistantly make the right dessicions and a veteran. This team has enough young players its time to start making a push towards the play offs and we need veterans for that not more lottery picks. As far as a size advantage goes steve plays like a 6'8" player anyway with his vertical game so I think that problem is a little overrated. If Andre is truely available I would make a hard push for him. I just can't get over a back court with Miller and Francis with Cat comming off of the bench. Of course would Cat or Francis go for that?
I think we need to make sure MoT can come back from his injury before we throw KT into a trade just to sweeten the pot. I think we can get Andre for a lot less if he is truely on the market. Besides KT won't be going anywhere next year for sure unless we trade him.
You are out of your mind. Cat and Grif. That's the equivalent of Raef, your first rounder and Mcdyess for Miller. Would you do that Mr. Trader Expert.
1. I hope the Rockets do not trade Mobes. I love his game and he has cut down on the bad decisions as of late and he gives this team a two guard that is great at shooting the ball or driving it to the basket. And I agree unless it involves someone like Duncan or Shaq then I don't think Cat should be considered in a trade. 2. I am not so sure that Steve would not accept the two guard spot. He plays a lot off guard in Rudy Ts three guard line up anyway. Steve's biggest problem with Vancuver was that he did not want to go there the fact that his preferance coming out of college was to play point was just another reason he wanted to be traded. How big of a problem he actually has with playing the off guard spot is unknown to me and has time in the NBA changed his feelings about playing the off guard spot? Unfortunately Steve is not the best point guard in the west. He makes to many mistakes that cost the Rockets valuable possessions and creates extra possessions for the opposition. There are several point guards in the game today that don't cost their team possessions with the type of bad decisions that Steve makes over and over through out the course of a single game. And why would Steve be posted up anymore than Mobes? They are about the same height. Steve continues to be the best rebounding guard in the game we would not loose that by moving him to the 2 spot. Those are not valid points.
You weren't the one who said Cat was untouchable, were you? For the record, I would trade Cat for Miller, but I wouldn't add in Griffin.
No I didn't say Cat is untouchable. I think we could accomplish this trade by using our lottery pick. At some point we have to start adding veterans instead of lottery picks. If we trade Cat then we will end up using our lottery pick on another young player that will probably take a couple of years to develope. Cat, Steve and Miller could be as good or better than Thomas, Dumars and Johnson IMO.
The biggest block from the Rockets' perspective on acquiring Miller would be selling the contract issue to Steve. This is Francis' team. He and Miller are up for extensions at the same time. Would Steve accept Andre Miller making as much as he does, when they get their deals at the same time? Would the Rockets want to give Miller as much as Francis? Can the Rockets afford doing that without dipping into luxury tax zone? Giving Francis and Miller equal contracts is symbolic of saying that they're equal players, and for the Rockets, I think Francis wants, and deserves to be, the man, until Griff breaks out (sick to think he hasn't "broken out" yet). I think this year may be a buyer's market if we're looking for a PG to move Francis to SG. Miller seems to be available, rumors say Baron Davis will too, as always Payton, and the excellent PGs in the draft means that there shouldn't be a bidding war for just 1 PG. Here's a hypothetical-We land the #2 pick, and team in front of us decides they want Yao Ming. The Clippers offer Odom/ for the pick/Moochie, and the Cavs offer Miller for the pick and Moochie. Take into account that Odom can play a psuedo-PG, and is already friends with Mobley/Francis, so you know they'd have absolutely no qualms with him. Also consider that it may be possible to get Odom to resign for less than the max due to some of his recent troubles. Which would you take. (I was considering adding Dooling to the Clippers deal, would that change things?)
I like Odem a lot and it would be hard to pass up on him in a trade. I would have no problem aqiring him instead of Miller if he could run the offense as a point forward. He seems to have a disposition similar to Eddies. There would be a gamble associated with this though...what happens if he has another drug violation? Two year suspension?
Why would we have to sell the issue to Steve. Once he signs the extention it will be a mute point. I definately don't think we can make a trade like this until after we lock Steve up for the next 7 years.
Nike, I love Odom's game, but I think Andre is better. Anyone know why Odom's stats are meager this year?
Odom's stats are meager this year because he really hasn't played a whole lot of games because of the drug violations, injury etc. He is currently on the IL, but I can't remember what for. That being said, do we really want to try and deal for this guy? Either he or Miles will have to be dealt in the next year or two, because they play the same position. That might be a possibility though. crash...I don't think he's going to get a two-year suspension for drug violations. Spreewell choked his coach and only got a year, so I don't think drug violations would get him more than that.
