You don't hire a coach so that 4 years later you can still aspire to the playoffs, but just be closer to it. That wasn't the goal going in. My biggest concern with this franchise is its inability to compete within its own division. If you can't do that, you aren't going to the playoffs.
I knew this was coming: player endorsements. Well, change is scary, AND the next coaching staff that comes in here is likely to be much more harsh and demanding. Some players are going to be benched, cut, or traded.
For some reason, I doubt Andre will be subjected to any of those, and he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who's worried about a coach making him work too hard. Again, as was previously stated, if Chris Brown was saying these things, you might have a point saying things like this. When it's Andre Johnson, you don't.
How can you say that? They lost a pro-bowl TE, were very thin going into teh season at DB and then lost two guys off the OL. Why would you expect that gets you to the playoffs?
No one can compete within this division. It had the team with the best record last year, looks to be the same this year, and the year before that, 8-8 got you 4th place.
If the Titans go 13-3 last year not many people beat them. If an entire division goes without having a losing team, that is saying something. Out of the 22 losses in the AFC south in 2007 12 of them were mandatory.
The AFC South is a *great* division. As such, if the Texans want to go anywhere they have to be *great*. And great they ain't. Here's hoping they go 12-4 next and finally kick Indy's and Tennessee's hind parts all over both stadiums.
No, the fact that the Colts, Jags, and Titans are so far superior to us from a talent standpoint totally negates that stat. It's obvious, that even though we played six one-possession games in a row with those teams, that they're clearly our daddy. Kubiak and the Texans know that the only way they're going to meet their goals is to win in the division. I believe he said that in his opening presser. The fact that they've come up short this year (5 times in a row!!) is maddening. Hoping they find a way to win those games next year and we can chalk this year up to a part of the maturation process of this team.
Indy certainly is. And The titan's best player is better then our best player. How does anything negate the stat. This is the best division, and has been for a while.
Every team in the NFL has injuries. The Texans aren't anything out of the ordinary and are healthier than they've been in recent years when Schaub and Andre Johnson were missing significant amounts of time.
i think the loss to the jets is unacceptable, rookie coach and rookie qb, and the txans are stacked with first round talent, both losses tot he jags are also unacceptable and the loss to indy with a 17-0 lead is also another unacceptable loss you go from 6-7 to 10-3 i'm sorry i expect more from this team the loss of owen daniels should be made up for by useage of another wide receiver, kevin walter has pretty much been absent this season, he is more than capable of replacing daniels offensive output, yes daniels is a TE and walters a WR, but daniels is in there to do one thing and that is catch balls
incorrect. He's one of the best blocking TEs in the game. you can't gloss over that; it's part of what makes him a pro-bowler. If he weren't, he'd be just another WR.
To say that they SHOULD be in the playoffs at a minimum is dumb when this has probably been the worst year for injuries. One year we had the most players on IR but this year is much worse. Starting RB and TE on IR plus 2 linemen.
Well, without the undefeated Colts, that record is 14-9. Since our Texans are 5-2 outside the division, that means the titans and Jags are a combined 9-7 outside the division this year. I would argue that the Colts are great (really ima??) and the rest of the division is so-so. 9-7 outside the division = so-so.
