the other poster's point was that he will only trade expiring and picks for a superstar... but none are available and certainly none for only expirings and picks. Now as to your post... how exactly is a trade for Iguodala "a trade just to make one" ? He is a clear upgrade for the sf position...
His point is valid. Iggy may be an upgrade at one position. But, the addition of him to the roster doesn't significantly make the team better. You're still talking about a team fighting to get into the playoffs. Nothing more. And sure, he might increase their chances of doing so, but do we not have higher expectations than that?
When ppl say "AVAILABLE SUPERSTAR" who exactly are you talking about??? Lebron Wade Kobe Melo Paul Deron Williams Rose Dirk Granger Josh Smith All of the following are top tier talents or "SUPERSTARS" that are NOT AVAILABLE. What does that mean ??? The only difference makers that could be available are players like: Iggy Wallace etc. You have to get Iggy if PHI is willing to trade him. He will DRASTICALLY upgrade this team !!! He's a glue guy with extreme talent !!!
Terrence Williams is a poor man's Iggy. Classic Morey - get the guy who is 75% as good at 1/10th of the cost.
T-Will is not a poor mans Iggy. Not even close. Even if we get Iggy, having a SF rotation of Iggy/T-Will will be a major upgrade on both ends of the court than Battier/Bud Lowry / Brooks / Ish Martin / Lee Iggy / T-Will Scola / Hill / Hayes / Patterson Yao / Miller I still think we need to go get Anthony Randolph, Thabeet and Mayo To get Iggy i think it will take Battier+Jefferies+Bud+Patterson+a pick = I think its well worth it !!!
I agree that the Rockets should go after Iggy, but for a different reason -- not just to settle for someone who "will have to do." I think he would make the team significantly better. Why do people keep using the term "superstar" as if all of them are interchangeable and any one would be the cure-all for the Rockets? That's ridiculous, and it's an incredibly oversimplified way of looking at things. We need a guy who brings things to the team that it doesn't already have, who complements our existing talents. Iggy does this. (Melo, quite honestly, does not. And frankly, it should be obvious by now that he's not going to sign a long-term deal here.) I hate this term "superstar." The top talents are not all the same, they do not all offer the same upgrade to the team, and implying that everyone else who isn't a "superstar" is somehow exactly equal to all the other non-superstars is also ridiculous. Iggy is a very good player, on both sides of the ball.
That trade doesn't work but we could take battier and Patterson out and add Jordan Hill or we can take out Jeffries... Jeffries, Hill and Bud or Battier, Patterson and Bud I think I would still do those trades, although with the new CBA looming it could be a bad move financially...
Not really. I can see the Rockets putting together a package with several of the gollowing for IGGY Battier (7.3 mil Expiring Contract) Jefferies (6.8 mil Expiring Contract) C-Bud (young shooter w/ athleticism) Patterson (young lottery pick) Getting T-Will just made both Bud and Battier expendable. I think Battier would resign with us after this year. I think Landry would too.
I wonder if Philly would take Yao and Cbud for AI and Kapono. Kapono has a negative value and the Sixers get a young shooter with potential and massive cap relief next year. .
I doubt we ever TRADE Yao...he means too much finaicially to the business aspect of the rockets organization and the NBA. I do hope that he accepts the MLE and stays with us. He does not deserve another MAX contract.
I was really hoping for Iggy, but maybe not anymore, due to his salary. OTOH, his salary isn't all that bad, if we send out Jeffries and Battier for him.
Exactly !!! Battier (7.3 mil) + Jefferies (6.8 mil) = 14.1 mil Iggy (12.3) Difference of about 1.8 mil less on our salary Plus PHI gets to free themselves of his salary while rebuilding !!!
