Agreed... but while we're playing GM.. why not shoot for the stars?? Lets do what it takes to bring Brand, Iggy, and Melo - I dont think Melo would object to playing with Iggy and Yao (if healthy) Trade away Scola, Lowry, Battier, Jefferies, Lee, Budinger, Miller, future picks. Just think.... Yao Brand Melo Iggy Brooks C'mon Morey... do your magic!
the only argument that ever gave me pause about an iguodala trade was the "we're too far gone to salvage the core and his contract will hinder rebuilding" line. but if we all agree rebuilding is a painful process taking 3-4 years AT BEST, then i am all for doing whatever we have to do to salvage this core and avoid it. if we still miss the playoffs and want to blow it up, i am sure we can trade iggy (along with any other players we want to cut loose for the rebuilding effort) to competitors for expirings and picks at next years deadline. yes we will have lost one year, but to me it's worth the gamble.
I still maintain we are not rebuilding. I think rebuilding talk is stupid. We're all up in the air over Yao. But it's just not Morey's mode of operation. We are attempting to contend for a championship and our best hopes STILL rest on Yao getting healthy. When healthy, YAO is the best pivot in the game and may be the best all-around big man in the game, even considering Pao, Duncan, etc. The big if is his health. Now, if we were to actually acquire Cousins, who would undoubtedly be the heir apparent in the post (He is a 5), then that would give me pause to re-consider whether we are moving Yao out. And even if that were the case, we would likely be trading Yao's expiring $17 million salary. That's not rebuilding. That's retooling on the run. If we did get Cousins, then Yao's salary added to Batt's, Jared's, and Chuck's salaries, is a huge chunk of salary to move out for a possible superstar. Morey would in all likelihood, look for a non-playoff team or a middle of the pack team with no chance to contend and take away their superstars for our expirings to keep our team stacked. Morey is simply not interested in losing and going to the lottery for a draft pick. Can't you see that? He's only interested in being in the lottery on somebody else's bad nickel. That's it.
Found this via the Sixers realgm board: Why is it Lou's Igloo Pack? The alliteration doesn't make sense. It must have been intended for someone else and a deal is in the works.
Yao's health is the black cloud that hovers over this team, if this was the 1st or 2nd time this happened then I'd agree but hoping Yao gets healthy is asking to be disappointed. When Healthy Yao WAS the best or 2nd best center in the game but he has to prove that again because the little bit we've seen of him he has looked okay but not dominant. Rebuilding is an option and the way the team was constructed, it was always an option BUT so was retooling so your absolutely right. Problem is what non-playoff team is ready to give up their SUPERSTAR? Granger is not a Superstar but still an all-star and they are actually good now, Iggy is a possiblity but again star not superstar...who is left? I, personally, would look to move the 2011 pick in a blockbuster move where you get multiple young pieces back with substantial potential. It wouldn't be a Nets type rebuilding plan but I would be prepared to take my lumps for a year or two and then hope those young guys all flourish at the same time.
I agree, he brings what we have been needing, defense and rebounding. He should only get better with more PT and experience.
So are you saying you are one of the "many"? I think up until now Shane has been a black hole on offense. Iggy can provide what we need as a two way player. He can also facilitate the offense and would not have to be the main go-to guy on offense, which should make him a more efficient player in Houston. He has hit clutch shots and he knows where to put the ball. He dunks the ball a lot, but he does it well and that's what we would want him to do... attack the basket.
To some this may not be a popular statement but what Battier provided last night, Iggy can do almost every night. Add him to a healthy Brooks and either a healthy(I know) Yao or another big we might acquire that can complement Miller and we have something very good right there.
While I am pro adding Iggy to this team, that is not necesarily true. Shane used his three point shooting last night to spread the floor and hit a couple of his corner threes off a fast break and rotation break down created by posting Scola. Iggy in that position is not playing to his strengths trying to hit those shots. Iggy will provide you some play making off the dribble at the wing which is someting we lack, but he is not a good spot up shooter. He will add a lot to this team but will also limit it in some ways. If he plays in place of Shane, you will lose some defense and the court will shrink, but gain another option late in games if Brooks isn't getting done by creating something from nothing. He is also quicker than Shane so he can exploit lazy defenders a little more.
Good points but just IMHO, Iggy defense has improved a great deal and is basically at that of Battier's level if not better. You are right, his outside shot isn't his strong suit but overall his percetnage inside the arc is MUCH better and this year, while taking 2 less 3s per game, he is the superior 3 point shooter. I think Shane lack of "O" puts the team at a major disadvatage on a nightly basis, at this point in his career, while his defense isn't at the point where you can say it offsets the lack of "O" and if you have a constant 18 ppg with solid to above average defense EVERYNIGHT instead of occasionaly...the team would be VERY VERY dangerous.
Adding an "18 ppg" scorer might sound nice, but it will also take the ball out of Martin/Brooks/Scola/Yaos hands to get to that 18 which will lower thier PPG. The whole point is can you add overall effeciency.
