Okay, let me clarify. What I meant was you are overstating/overrating what it would take to acquire Iguodala. You are overvaluing his.. trade value. As far as Iguodala the basketball player, I completely agree with your above assessment. I would go as far as calling him absolutely elite defensively. But to determine trade value there are other factors at hand. Like I mentioned before, his contract is an albatross to non-contenders. While most contenders don't have what Philly wants in return. The fact that Philly has a substantial payroll, while sucking, means that it is time to rebuild(blow it up). The fact that their lotto pick and new face of the franchise plays the same position as Iggy means he is primed to be the one to go. Potentially at fire sale prices especially the longer we wait. Think Gasol trade. The reason we couldn't get him last year like you wanted was because the cost of getting him then was completly different. Besides the fact that they probably didn't need Landry. But now, with his (cheap)successor in place, and a franchise growing tired of losing games and dollars, IMHO, Iggy can be had for a new low low price of expirings, prospects, and a pick.
I have always liked the idea of Brooks/Martin/AI. However, I am starting to think something like Lowry/Martin/AI could work also. Lowry is really playing some good D lately.
I hope you're right. It seems a lot of times fans of other teams assume they can get x player on the cheap because of x reasons.. but I usually don't see too many examples of it. Though I will say I think we did get Martin cheap.
I too wouldve liked iggy and butler over martin. It really has nothing to do withmartin not being a good player, he's just a 1 way player. He draws fouls which is what morey really likes and he's a good scorer, but he releases early on defense, doesnt defend, doesnt rebound, doesnt pass unless he has to, and isnt the toughest player. Iggy will never be the scorer martin is, but the guy plays every game, and does alot of other things. I wanted the butler package too because he came with Haywood. Cxbby, Blatche post trade played well for the wizards. The guy is still developing as a player and now with wall, he can go back to just being a player. For a guy who supposedly had league pass and watched the wizard play last year, I dont know what player you were watching. You said he stat padded on a losing team, but isnt that what martin has always done? The wizard probably wouldnt trade blatche straight up for scola right now and scola is a really good player.
Iggy is like a poor mans Pippen. I'll be so happy if they land him without giving up much. They was indeed in talks around this time last season. They was talking about Martin/Butler/Iggy all around the same time frame. And Philly wanted Lowry is why we backed off the deal.
They will be offering Iggy and Williams for a package centered around Lowry just like last year when we backed off.
With the emergence of Ish Smith, that would be a very attractive package, especially if it is Lowry + Jeffries and a pick or two. DD
Yea Williams if he gets hot his game reminds me of younger Bobby Jackson a combo guard who could be a spark off the bench.
Thought they did offer Williams with Iggy from what i read on this forum last year. We have to many assets something has got to give. And we are an uncertain team with no real direction do to Yao once he's gone that is the official rebuilding stage imo.
The only offer I saw, in a Philadelphia newspaper, was Morey offering McGrady and Budinger for Iguodala and change -- it could have been Williams to make the salaries work, I'm honestly not sure. They declined and I never saw another mention about an offer. Lowry is on an MLE'ish deal for the next several years and they already have their PG of the future playing big minutes as he develops. I don't think they would have any use for Lowry, much like they wouldn't for Brooks. The picks are appealing, as well as expiring contracts, but you'll probably have to give them a valuable player they can build on as well. My first inclination would be to say Courtney Lee, but doesn't Turner play the SG spot? We'll probably have to find a third team to make an offer appealing enough for Philly.
As much as I like Lowry, do it. Iggy will drastically improve this team's perimeter defense. He is a much better version of Battier. Much better.
