Cat-I dunno. I remember last year, Blazers offered him near the max via sign and trade (Stoudamire) right when he was committing to San Antonio.

The Blazers are very interesting, they have brought in some solid young players that can keep them from falling on their faces. Wallace, Stoudamire, Wells, and now Anderson as well as Barkley and Randolph. If they hadn't traded Jermaine O'Neal, they'd have a fierce young lineup of O'Neal-Wallace-Wells-Anderson-Stoudamire, with Barkley and Randolph off the bench, and they still have Quitten, Smith, Kemp, and Davis for a few more years.

Jesus this is one dumb move by Anderson. Leave the team that he fits perfectly on, that he helped achieve the best record in the league. The spurs offered a reasonable deal of 7 mill a season. He wants more, so he actually decides to sign for less money and more years on a too talented, chemistry lacking team. I used to like the guy, but he just sounds like a fu**ing idiot. If i were the spurs, i wouldnt sign and trade the b*stard; Steve Smith doesnt fit too well anyway. This man's sick sense of greed is just mindboggling to me.

    KK,

don't you understand that this is about principalities? in DA's opinion, he sacrificed for the organization last year. he could have gotten more money in portland.

this summer, the spurs DIDN'T EVEN CALL HIM!!! yes, dave had to come first, for cap reasons alone. but there is NO WAY IN HELL you don't at least contact DA. he even offered to sit down with dave and hammer out a deal where the spurs could fit both of them in. what did the spurs do? JACKSH!T. they didn't even call the man.

and then they show up with an ultimatum???? i'd have said f*ck you, too!

the spurs, as has been demonstrated this offseason, are a 2nd rate organization.

they lost avery, samaki (who did sign with the lakers despite what naysayers thought...gr8 job spurs...give the lakers a new power forward [IMG] ), DA, and sean elliot. greeeeeat job. [IMG]

do you realize how many ex-spurs there are that will NEVER come back to san antonio?

    mario elie SAID IT.
    will perdue SAID IT.
derrick anderson has all but said it.

i mean, we're talking about an organization with a growing reputation for not taking care of their own. i be glad to see them suffer next year.

the shameful thing is the cocky spurs' fan still believes they will be the best in the league next year....

I've been a fan of DA since he began playing at OSU. Just a couple points:
    1. He did have a nice thing going in SA.
    2. SA screwed up by not working with him more in the off-season.
    3. Most athletes have very fragile egos. SA hurt DA by not calling him.

I wish it would have worked out for DA, but the good news is SA is not as good as they were before. I honestly think Sac has a better team than them with adding Bibby.

Now unless Sac can make a big deal happen shortly then the Admiral will grow old and retire and Duncan will leave via FA, hopefully staying in state! [IMG]

Huh? [IMG] Derek Anderson went to Kentucky. Maybe you're thinking of his stint with the Cavaliers?

    TPL-
He started off at OSU and played here his freshman year. Shortly after virtually every member of the basketball team at OSU was in trouble (stealing, shooting guns, etc) and DA did the smatrt thing and jumped ship to KU.

The bottomline is that the Spurs didn't seem too hot on keeping this guy. There is a rumor in ESPN Insider (located at grainofsalt.com) which details a rumored 3way deal between SA, Portland, and Chicago that sends DA to Portland, SSmith to Chicago, and Mercer & Artest to SA. That sounds too good to be true, but if that went down, then the Spurs will have definitely had a nice offseason.

As for the "loss" of Elliott and AJ, those guys' roles with the Spurs dimished throughout last season.

Walker did play well when called upon, but I can't wait to watch Duncan v. Samaki Walker.

So far the true offseason 'loss'is DA, but how much of a loss he is depends on how he leaves SA.

His departure could very well prove to be a net gain for SA.

Is Chicago that desperate to get Smith? I know Krause is dumb, but still...

I really liked Derek. The first home preseason game of the year was against the Rockets. Derek was handing out Spurs pins at the enterance before the game. I shook hands with him, and he smiled when he saw my shirt. I wish I had a camera. I was wearing a Rockets shirt. I didn't know who he was until the game actually started.

I was also at the game when Juwan Coward took him out [IMG]

what disgusts me is how san antonian's are now ripping DA, calling him a sellout and a "classless individual". [IMG]

yea, he's your best friend when he's on your team, but if leaves..."piss on him".

    ridiculous.
    shameful.

MrSpur, wouldn't you agree that one of the unwritten rules of team sports is never to criticize a teammate in public?

That is the definition of a sellout.

Pippen had just signed this huge contract with the rockets and a year later he demands to be traded and ends up making the team trade him for crap.

Anderson is a free agent who took less money than he had to to play with the spurs because he thought he would get a good amount the next year, when he didnt he wanted to leave.

Yeah those are the exact same situations, eh?

I'd say 5 years and over 40 million dollars is a good amount of money. If not, he should be criticized for pure stupidity on his part and expecting to be worth more, because he's not.

or maybe Anderson just came to the realization that the spurs suck.

DA received much love in SA until during the
playoffs, when he voiced his desire for "the
MAX and 25 shots a game".

Ah yes, the "DA took less money" myth. He
didn't. The Clippers would not agree to
sign and trade him anywhere. He was looking
at exception money wherever he went. Sure,
he went to SA because of the cap space this
summer. But he didn't take less money than
he was being offered last summer.

The Spurs obviously didn't want him back. He
expected to be treated like the Franchise.
He even expressed the fact that he
    was "letting David Robinson" take
more as much as he did. He then goes off on
his "loyalty" tirade and I suppose now he
will find it with that franchise known for
loyalty to its players, [IMG] the Portland
    Trailblazers.

Close enough. Pippen was welcomed in
Houston for a while until he decided to
find a way out of town.
