http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3748 Well, the Spurs is paying more than $3 million a year for this guy, and I think he's a pretty good deal. If Dave Andersen can just be as productive as Matt Bonner this past year, he'd be money VERY well spent. Having a 3 point shooter at the 5 spot can do a lot more for an offense when you have either post-up threats or penetrators than the raw stats a guy puts up indicates. Life for the offensive player at the rim is much easier if the biggest mofo on the opposing team is somewhere around the 3 point line guarding David Andersen, Matt Bonner or (on the higher end of things) Memo Okur. If Andersen can just hit a reasonable (35% or so) amount of 3s, he'll make the lives of Brooks, Lowry, and even Scola a lot easier.
I think this was a great move by Morey getting a veteran center who's won a championship for less than $3 mill a year. He also has some pretty good offensive moves and a nice shot from outside which is will be huge in our new style of offense without Yao. At center we have Andersen = offense, Hayes = defensive stopper, and Dorsey = rebounding. If only we could get a player who has all three. I'm looking forward to the trades that might be transpiring over the next month or so.
My best friends sister knows Terence Morris and he told his sister that Anderson is real soft and everyone would punk him all the time. Take it for what its worth but she talks to Morris frequently.

Below market value my ass. We gave up a second-rounder and cash (millions together) to sign a league-minimum scrub to a $7.5 million contract. David Anderson is what you get by averaging Steve Novak and Jackie Butler together.
Rockets sign Anderson HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Friday the Houston Rockets have reached a contract agreement with newly acquired center David Andersen from Australia. League sources told FOX 26 Andersen and the Rockets have agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.8 million. The contract also includes a team option for a third year worth $2.7 million. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/090717_rockets_sign_andersen
That's a lot for an unheard of and untested Euro league center, I hope Morey has done his homework because there are some NBA centers with experience that we could have gotten for the same money or less like Magloire, Foyle, Rasho, Ratliff, Petro and Smith.
http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=172109 so was this 5 star 4 page thread on the front page here not good enough for you?
Those players are proven to be over the hill or more injured than Yao, last year. Only Rasho is healthy and is still good. I bet he will get get a bigger contract than we expect.
I dont think it is alot in NBA standards... We paid Scola $2.9M/Yr when he first came over and he was just as unproven.
I just googled Rasho. He is interested in staying with Toronto. Most players don't like to move, unless it's for more money or a championship.
I'll bet you said the same thing two years ago when Morey traded for Luis Scola's draft rights. Let's take a look at the relative price to obtain each of them, and you'll see that, while Andersen is not expected to be as good as Scola (even based on opinions of Scola before he played in the NBA), the relative cost was far less: Cost to obtain Luis Scola: --Signed him to 3-year, $9.45M contract (fully guaranteed) --Traded 2009 2nd round pick to Spurs --Traded Vassilis Spanoulis's voidable contract for Jackie Butler's $2.6M in dead weight --After Butler was waived, had to pay to offload contracts at trade deadline to avoid luxury tax Cost to obtain David Andersen: --Signed him to 2-year, $4.8M contract (team option for third year at $2.7M) --Traded future 2nd round pick to Hawks (protected???) --Traded $2M in cash to Hawks --May have to maneuver at trade deadline to further reduce $2.3M in salary to get below luxury tax line By my estimation, it cost the Rockets a lot more to get Scola than it did to get Andersen. Given each of their reputations as top international talent (with Scola viewed as the superior talent), I think the relative cost was appropriate.
