Dude, Dwight had a waaayyyy better supporting cast and got through the Leastern Conference with a KG-less Celtics team and a LeBron only Cavs team.

We put up a better fight against the Lakers then they did.

With AB as the point not Rafer, Yao took Rafer to the 1st round of the playoffs ONE year.

 

Rafer alston was the starting pg on the magic through the finals. Howard has never played with a player as good as mcgrady. I want to say it again, Rafer Freaking Alston was the starting pg in the playoffs for the magic,lmao.

 

You're factoring the games in which Dwight barely played. So be it, but you also made a statement saying that Vince freaking Carter was carrying that Magic team which could not be further from the truth.

 

didnt read the whole thread and I am sure someone else already said it but a HEALTHY YAO is definitely better than Howard.. Unfortunately a healty Yao is not something we have seen lately and may never see again so Edge goes to Dwight now.
Amare is also much better than yao now.. oh well

Not so sure about that, remember the Magic are playing in the East, they also have

Lewis, Nelson, Carter, Pietrus, Williams, Reddick, and Gortat. That rotation could still win alot of games in the East.

 

I think yao's best year was the year they played the jazz when he was dropping 25 and 30 points on people and yet he couldn't get his team out of the 1st round cause Carlos boozer out rebounded him. Contrast this with the magic who are in their second conference final in a row with dwight being the main piece. He was stuffing the celtics multiple times yesterday. Defense is way underrated and I think in many match ups( pick and roll), I would rather have dh.

 

Thing of it is, if yao was on the magic, there is no way you could play lewis at the 4. They can get away with it because howard can cover alot of ground. Thats why they have a top defense again despite having avg defensive players.

 

People that say Yao is neutralized by fronting, I have two questions for you. Have you ever played basketball and do you realize that effective fronting takes the full attention of at least two players and the awareness of the rest? For those not so good at math, when one player is guarded by two players, that means someone is open. Could you get away with this when Chuck Hayes and Rafer Alston is on the floor? Absolutely. Could this happen now with Brooks, Martin, Scola, and Ariza? Hell no.

Howard is better than Yao until Yao proves that he can stay healthy and lead his team to NBA Finals.

I know Yao owns him on one-on-one matchups, but this about making your team better.

Staying healthy is obviously more important than anything else.

 

If Yao Ming started his career in the EC, I have no doubt things would have been different in terms of "success". People need to look at the competition rather than just "1st round win", etc. The West has been ridiculously deep for a while now. The Thunder are the 8th seed in the West this year. They have a great chance of thrashing every team in the East, minus the top 3. And I'd argue that they would give Cavs, Magic, Celtics a good 6-7 game series.

That said, Dwight is definitely the better player (even though that doesn't really make sense) because he is healthy, strong, and has a huge impact. He's not really skilled, though.
