So, is this the part where I defend Lebron? Seriously, Kobe overall being a better player is one thing when you compare them, but Lebron today is simply superior to Kobe of today simply due to age. It's really not up for discussion anymore.

His nick-name "black mamba" has nothing to do with his race.

The "Black Mamba" is considered the deadliest snake there is.

Larry Bird could have been considered the "Black Mamba"

man between this game and the thunder/suns game two great finishes last night

kobe, as much as i dislike him as a person, the guy is still at the top of his game offensively despite his recent injuries.

exactly shows you why memphis needs a defensive specialist on the team both 3s that kobe took late were wide open. How does Rudy Gay (who i believe statistically is the worst defender in the nba from that recent nba.com article at the beg of the season) lose Kobe on the last possesion and then go UNDER the screen giving Kobe all the space in the world to pull up and shoot a 3.

A road team is down two with what could be the final possession of course they are going to go for the three if it presents itself.

Man worst defense ever, first he loses kobe and then goes under the screen Rudy Gay is an idiot.

It just boggles the mind that you let possibly one of the best closers, if not the best, in the game be able to catch the ball, line up the seams and shoot a 3 with the game on the line. Its no wonder the grizzlies do not seem eager to have Gay back on their squad, the guy has all the offensive potential and talent in the world but will lose his team more games than win with stupid plays like that

I'm just glad Memphis lost. Now we are 1/2 game a head of them. Woohoo!!!

Why don’t teams double team Kobe? A team like Memphis is not known for great defense, they of all teams should be double teaming him. Let one of the other guys beat you, Kobe's shot is automatic.

    black mamba

It is also known for being very aggressive when threatened, and will not hesitate to strike with deadly precision.

The black mamba is reputed as being the fastest snake in the world, traveling at a recorded speed of up to 19.5 km/h (12 mph).

i think that's why Kobe took the name

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_mamba

The Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is an elapid snake found in Africa. It inhabits a wide range of locations throughout the continent, as it is found in Ethiopia, Kenya, Botswana, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa and the Congo. It is one of Africa's most venomous and feared snakes. The black mamba is found in areas that include open savannahs, woodlands, and rocky outcrops.[1] It is also known for being very aggressive when threatened, and will not hesitate to strike with deadly precision.

The black mamba is the longest venomous snake in Africa. It is the second longest, venomous snake in the world only to the King Cobra [2].

Question is, with the all-stars teammates Kobe played with, the lakers should be blowing teams like kings and grizzlies. Why is it had to be down to the last second shot? Don't blame this on Gasol's softness, Odom's laziness, Artest's craziness and Bynum's fat as$$. I put this blame on Kobe poor leadership!

    His one-on-one with Dream? :p

For those that didn't know, the black mamba is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. As for who came up with it, Kobe did, Shaq style. Basically he called himself the black mamba in one of his interviews and the media just ran with it.

Law of average? I'd guess most players shoot about the same average at game winning shots than normal shots, maybe a little lower due to the pressure and rush factors.

Game winning shots are just more memorable.

I like how you do nothing to prove your point and throw out a rather unsubstantiated claim. Lebron is not better than Kobe even factoring in age. I don't care how many highlights Lebron puts up. Kobe is the best basketball player in the world because he just wins. Kobe has 4 rings. Lebron has none. The man is lethal. Don't use the supporting cast argument either. Lebron played in the East when it was absolutely horrible. Yet he still only had one finals appearance. Also, Lebron wont hold up as well when he ages. Most of his game relies on athleticism and agility. Kobe is the most basketball savvy person on the planet right now. He is still the best. You may not like him, but there is no denying his production.

PS: Why do you always tag the last word of your posts?

They shoot much less on game winning shots. 82games looked at it for a span of 4 years or so, and I think in all the FG% was 28%.

I'd expect it to be somewhere around 35-40%. I am guessing there must be a lot of shots they had to put up in just a few seconds.

Kobe, even with the recent amazing "streak" is still significantly lower than the other big guns in the past 5 seasons. That is quite contrary to common perception.

What I meant with "law of average" is that it should not be surprising that a player would have stretches where he shot poorly and stretches where he had insane accuracy. And they would average out. It is the same way with regular shots.
