“My offer is this: nothing. And I would appreciate it if you would personally cover my licensing fee.” EDIT: fixed which @Ottomaton quote I intended.
Yeah I mean keep in mind that she basically answers to the casino owners like Steve Wynn and Tillman Fertitta. Just assume this is her mouth moving but their words coming out of her mouth. To be the mayor of Vegas you basically just work for those handful of billionaires. Kind of makes you wonder what the response would be if the mob still owned Vegas.
I can't help but wonder how much money was exchanged to make this happen. There are a lot of rich and crooked people with money to lose, including hotel and casino owners, sports betting agencies, and oh, maybe the NBA and their desire to have playoffs in Vegas. Hmmmm, sure smells fishy.
make gambling online and escorts legal for the next 3 months, nationwide! I just don't want you guys crying that you were expecting a 10 and got IPSAC'd.
Everything has been a mess. Anyone who expects the government to handle this effectively and efficiently are fools. Yes, we need government help. But we also have to stop acting like those who want the private sector to step in as selfless monsters. For some, the 2% risk of death is a better alternative than not getting anything.
Fools to be believe our government, and this office would do anything effective and efficient, surely. Other governments have handled this much better
If you think these other governments can manage 328M fickle Americans over 3.8M sq miles, maybe you should move there. Or even run for office yourself. Do you really think Russia, China and India are doing a fantastic job?
Germany did a better job than the US and they have a greater population density than the us. What other criteria are you going to use to try and make trump look good? His handling of the situation through his lack of leadership, lack of accountability, his lack of self awareness has caused this situation to be what it is right now. You guys on the right can blame China all you want(and yes China was a major part of the problem) but that does not excuse Trump’s handling of the situation once the problem came here.
Meanwhile, the Federal Grill restaurant in Hedwig Village will open Friday in defiance of Covid orders (but with the mayor's blessing). The owner figures if he has best practices installed for social distancing, he can push the pace to get the industry going again. https://www.chron.com/entertainment...t-Federal-Grill-reopen-in-dining-15219870.php I am sympathetic. I own an entertainment business that is completely shut down (no take out for us) and facing an existential threat. I would like nothing more than to find a way to operate with covid protocols in place so we can hire back our workers, pay our rent, and entertain our guests. The whole restaurant and entertainment industry is in a pickle and the PPP has been a poor fit for providing meaningful relief. I'm glad in a way he's putting pressure to provide a better solution. But I'm hoping (and expecting) Federal Grill gets raided by the sheriff's department. He can't be allowed to defy orders for public safety. We all move together.
I saw the interview live yesterday. The dumbfoundedness on Cooper's face was amazing. That mayor is not bright. Not only is it stupidly foolish to reopen Vegas right now, no one is coming there and even if they did, no one is going to work.
You should seek help with your Trump Derangement Syndrome. No where did I mention a leader or party. My comment was generally based about government in general. Stop making EVERYTHING about Trump and Republicans. Now that you want to filter down to the Virus and Trump; There is only so much a president can do, whether its Clinton, Bush, Obama, or Biden's VP. Currently NYC is having serious issues. Is Trump doing a terrible job in NYC but a great job in the mid west? Or maybe German citizens (ie: not their government) are doing a much better job taking the virus serious. Its not the German citizens putting a cranky old grandmother, an orange haired clown or an old man slipping into dementia on their tickets. Maybe its time we start placing some of the responsibility back on our ignorant citizens of this country, starting with you and I.
I do think Germany is a good example of efficient and data-driven governance in the pandemic. South Korea to some extent. But your point is a good one: how would they fare with our particular society and our particular norms, especially the cancerous state of our society in 2020? They too would fail. I would just say this, however. If we have a loud minority group and their media outlets harangue us all constantly for 30 years that government is awful and hopeless, even electing people to government office who literally don't believe in government, then here's what happens: we indeed get to live that self-fulfilling prophecy. It did not have to be this way. A group of Americans wanted to walk back the social contract, and they dragged all of us with them. I've always been worried by how far back they want to go.
Other countries with lesser population density have done fine. If us being a large country is always going to be an excuse on why we suck then we should really just split the country up.
We are already split up. In 50 states. 5 territories. All govern different from each other. Some states appeal more to others. We should stop trying to make every state like New York and California. We have finally gotten to the point where every state is no longer like Mississippi.
Mississippi is the poorest state, highest poverty in the country, not sure why you would want any state to be like them? No I’m saying I think we should legitimately split the US into new countries. You can live in Mississippi, I will live in California, and you can laugh and call me stupid for living in a shithole country.
The funny thing is that there is no way the red states would go for this...they need the New Yorks and Californias to keep them alive economically. If you split up the country, would Texas go with the South, or just become it's own country again? My guess is the latter as I doubt Texans want to prop up the rest of the southern states. So, the poor southern states would only get poorer as what do they have to export that's worth anything? It's an interesting idea, and one that I think should be investigated, but I can't see it coming to fruition at this point in time. There's too many states that rely on bigger states to pull them through (and yet, they send politicians up like Mitch McConnell to be in power).
Instead of being condescending and assuming anyone who disagrees with you is a Trump supporter (perhaps this is the real problem with our country), reflect what I am trying to state. I specifically stated we are no longer to the point like every state is like Mississippi? Can you please explain to me how that equates to me wishing every state should be like Mississippi? Mississippi was once a well off state. Yes, the religious hypocrites took advantage of keeping people in bondage all while using their religion to dictate policies through the whole country. It took a couple centuries to throw back this mentality, but we are getting there. The modern zealots are doing the same thing the religious zealots did. 'I dont approve of your thoughts, so we should just split the country up since I can't force my teams ideology on them'. So please explain to me how this is going to work? Are we going to physically locate all the metropolitans to California? Uproot all the liberals and move them to one location? You understand there is no such thing as red and blue states? Politics is sharply divided down urban and rural lines. Do you really just want to cut N California out of the picture since they tend to be conservative (feel free to research the sovereign movements in northern California). You realize most of the water and transmission lines run through northern california? How do you think that is going to play out? Clearly you haven't thought this out. Perhaps a better solution is to find common ground instead of finding ways to insult people who we disagree with. Then perhaps we will end up with better candidates than Clinton, Trump and Bidens VP.
