You don't realize that the Jazz are the no #1 enemies of the Rockets. I was happy when Payton and Kemp knocked them out,and believe me,I hated when the Sonics beat us. Payton trashed talked,so what? The Sonics beat them fair and square.
When Elie shot it, my immediate reaction was a "WTF?!?!", but in retrospect it made sense - he had a pretty clean look and was relatively open. But Clyde - that was completely indefensible. This wasn't a matter of finding yourself open for a shot...he created the entire play himself! He literally had it one on one up top and started his move 2 or 3 seconds too early. Not even rookies make that mistake. We don't even get past Utah in '95 without Clyde though, so no point in beating a dead horse. Why were they our #1 enemies? You're thinking in hindsight. They weren't hated rivals - we owned them. It's like saying the Lakers view us as enemies. They don't. The Sonics on the other hand ended a 2 year title run in humiliating fashion.
Actually I don't understand why the Jazz were the #1 enemies, other than the fact that they played dirty. Other than the Stockton shot, they were not really that much of a rival to us. The Sonics, however, were always in our way. In fact, I always hated Payton more than Stockton. I guess I just prefer quietly efficient players like Stockton over loud mouth guys like Payton.

There is a lot more resentment at the way the Jazz play and at their fans, then against anyone else.
My feelings exactly. The guy is basically the opposite of T-Mac. Very little in terms of natural gifts, but a gritty/dirty, highly intelligent (perhaps the smartest in terms of understanding the game in NBA history), unflashy, and never wilted in the big moment. Loved to hate the guy.
True, you could blame it on Clyde, but that was one hell of a bear hug by the "mail man" and Chuck closed out sooo slooow, but that's pretty much the way he did everything when came over to the red and white nation "Charles for another three, off the mark"-bill warrell.
I was only 14 at the time but I've blamed Clyde for that loss from the beginning. A boneheaded play by a vet.
Why are there no videos of John Stockton passing... oh... wait... I can't stand that cheating basterd... and NO... he DIDN'T play the game the right way.
