Not necessarily. I never argued that it was. I only said that there is some level above zero that would be considered okay. After reading your post, I looked at the video and that seems to be what the president is talking about as well.
Bush is basically saying. 'Hey! You're gonna have to learn to live with the occasional suicide bomber, I am!" That's winning!
Right now? Of course not. Do I think it is possible to get there? Yes I do. That is one reason why I am for staying.
you are entitled to your opinion, but i must remind you that a majority of the active duty military are against staying, disapprove of the way bush has run the war and believe it was a mistake to invade in the first place. on a related note, i just found out yesterday that two of my cousins are heading to iraq - one is a reservist who also works in intelligence (thats his career) - he has 3 kids all under 10 - one w/ down syndrome. he already did a tour right after 9/11. the other is a ranger who has already done 2 tours in afghanistan. first they told him he was going back to afghanistan and then they tell him he is going to iraq in june. i must add though, that i havent heard either one complain about it or feel sorry for themselves. they are driven by duty and an obligation to their comrades, whether or not they agree with or support bush. but 2nd and 3rd tours! this has never been done to our military before - even in WWII. needless to say, im really scared for both of them.
Best of luck to your family. Try and e-mail them when they are there and send a care package if you can. My nephew was incredibly appreciative for that stuff when he was there. He's going back either in October or around the holidays. Then that is supposed to be his last duty in Iraq.
thanks yall - i feel the worst for my cousin w/ 3 young kids - a year is a hell of a long time for little kids - at least the other one is single (hard to keep girlfriends when you keep getting sent out for a year at a time). i do send care packages and definitely email w/ more frequency than when they are at home. stuff like that does alot more to "support the troops" than arguing about the merits of the war on a message board. it was really odd that i heard the news about both of them on the same day - they are cousins on the opposite sides of the family and dont know each other.
Just wanted to point out, in the interest of fairness, that in Europe during WWII, there were no end to the "tours" for American soldiers. (other countries did it differently, and we should have) They replaced the dead and wounded and kept the units in the field, in the main. D&D. The Rockets have me Depressed. Really Depressed.
I guess to Bush this is acceptable. -- Military bracing for casualty jump in next 90 days 12 GIs killed as carnage in Iraq rises A senior U.S. commander said Sunday that the military was bracing for a rise in the casualty rate in the coming months, as an ongoing security offensive attempts to tame the catastrophic violence and stabilize Baghdad. “All of us believe that in the next 90 days, you’ll probably see an increase in American casualties because we are taking the fight to the enemy,” Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of the Army’s Task Force Marne, told reporters Sunday. “This is the only way we can win the fight.” http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/17190385.htm
so the only way to win is to lose more brave american lives? that's just great. where is the outrage? oh yeah, some people still support the war, i always forget that minor detail.
My only question is why cann't (won't) the Iraqi's take more responsiblity. How many years will it take before the Iraqis are ready?
I was just talking with my daughter's uncle who has been deployed to Iraq 3 times already and has been told to expect a 4th deployment within the next year. It's unfreakingbelievable. And for the most part you won't hear them complain, even the ones who were against the war in the beginning. My brother freaking volunteered to go to Iraq, even though he thought the war was a mistake. He wanted to support his fellow Marines. Thankfully, the work he was doing stateside was too important and he wasn't sent. I swear the people still talking about how they think this war is worth fighting, but don't have the balls to fight themselves, are truly sickening. They have no problem seeing others dying for something they don't think is important enough put their own ass on the line. Uhhhg. Just writing about it is pissing me off.
