http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/1728/americas-worst-speed-traps/ 1. Houston, Texas Speed traps: 373 And the winning city is from … Texas! Seriously, the speed traps in Texas are so bad, Dornsife said, "any place in Texas could be No. 1." Drivers note on Speedtrap.org that there are traps set at the Houston city limits and near attractions like the Astrodome. And, the speed limit can change rapidly and dramatically. One motorist wrote that entering the city on Highway 59 North, the speed limit dropped suddenly to 55 from 70. Just as the motorist noticed the speed-limit change on his GPS, BAM! There was a speed trap. The number of tickets was even more staggering when the economy was bad: In March of last year, KTRK Channel 13 found that Houston police officers wrote about 3,000 tickets per day, or 147 an hour! TrafficTicketSecrets.com says the average speeding ticket in the U.S. is about $150. Multiply that out and that's $450,000 a day—and $14 million for the month.
They use every trick in the books. They are pathetic. Quick traffic lights. Hiding. Speed traps. Hidden cars with no police markings visible. Cameras. This is a city wide scheme.
I don't understand how they can get away with red light cameras, when the timing for all of them is different.
I call horsecrap on this. Anyone (ANYONE) that's lived on the East Coast, particularly Virginia through Jersey can tell you what driving "police states" are really like. There are bad spots in Texas that I can think of quickly: Ennis and any of the areas just south of Dallas where the speed limit has dropped from 70 Hearne, Calvert, and Marlin on Hwy6 between A&M and Baylor. Southside USED to be a dangerous place to go a mile over the limit, but since they passed some laws, Bellaire is the only spot in Houston I know of that is still relatively ticket-happy. When you can drive on 610 doing 75 mph without a chance in 500 of getting a ticket....this is not a Speed Trap City. Virginia cops are insane. Those state troopers go to ridiculous lengths (unmarked minivans) to hunt down folks going over 55.
Forget the speed traps, they need to have a list of the ****tiest roads among big cities, we've got some ****ty ass roads. Don't those fools know how to patch up potholes correctly?
If you drive up from Dallas into Oklahoma, it's hilarious how fast the speed limit drops from 70 ... to 60 ... to 50 ... to 45 or thereabouts in a matter of about 1/2 mile (?) in multiple towns in Oklahoma (around Atoka and McAlester, I guess).
A lot of Texas towns do this as well - some of the smaller highways have speed limits that change every time you get anywhere near a town.
Wow. I guess I've never seen that around here. I guess because most of the small towns in Texas I've been to are "off the highway" whereas these Oklahoma towns I was going through, the major highway went straight through them. Come to think of it, maybe I encountered something similar around Paris, Texas.

I'm from Colorado...the speed traps are no joke. I'm not surprised that 2 cities from CO made it on the list. The pigs need to use that energy on something else like...stopping significant crime.
I'm no Dallas fan, but why in god's name (unless you're heading to like Wichita I guess) would you ever drive that way?
Yep, going anywhere up north toward Minneapolis/St. Paul, that's the way to go. I've made that drive numerous times.
I live in the DFW area. I drive north up 75/69 and hang a right in Checotah, Oklahoma (apparently the birthplace of Carrie Underwood and not a damn thing else) to get to the Boston Mountains/Ozarks in Arkansas. That drive through Oklahoma is depressing.
Got my first ticket in about 5 years last week going to the airport. Was in my fiances car, so didnt have my radar, was on 59 right before the beltway, and was going 70+, sure enough, got clocked at 76 by a woman cop. I shouldve tried harder to get out of the ticket, but I had gone so long without being pulled over I just accepted it...blah...now i have to fill out all those stupid forms for defensive driving.
