I said that, yes. And we make a good salary combined to do that. I was just giving my example. I think that anyone who is saving more than 15% a year is doing a good job.

We are blessed, work hard, and are able to save more. I was only using it as an example. There are many, many people I work with who make much more money combined and live paycheck to paycheck because they NEED a 5000 sq ft house, 2-3 new luxury cars, an expensive vacation, ect.

That is pretty harsh. If her dad is really pulling in 175k, then it is completely reasonable for him to foot a 2500/year tuition. This is assuming that she's a decent student and didn't just blow off high school.

And her parent's income has everything to do with the financial aid she receives. I've just gone through the whole process with my daughter. Federal financial aid makes a default assumption that parents are contributing a (high) amount based on their income. I'm sure there is some incredibly complicated procedure you can go through to prove that your parents won't contribute anything, but just applying for financial aid is a big enough pain in the ass as it is.

    Wow.
If you knew anything about me, your opinion would be completely credible...

As much money as my dad makes, and has made over the past few years, I've always paid for all my own things. I would babysit during summers just to save up for school clothes. Other than that, I really don't have or require anything else. The most expensive thing I own is a $300 purse that was a gift from my boyfriend.

For having no idea what I'm talking about, all through middle school and up until last year, I wrote up all his deposits and mailed/handled most of his bills. He has made no investments, no retirement fund, and didn't purchase health insurance up until this year. Utilities? Not much. We've lived in the same little house for 16 years and its only had minor cosmetic changes. The computer is the "family" computer. Of course, I have a cell phone. Small bill. Big deal.

Honestly, I could care less what he does with his money. But when I decided to graduate high school a year early, and they assured me all year long that my tuition would be paid for, only to renege 3 weeks before enrollment, that was completely wrong. They can't afford $2500 a YEAR that they promised me, but my mom can spend all she wants on meaningless crap that piles up in the house, and they can pay my 28 y.o. sister's $800/mo Infiniti bill? That's crap. You have no idea what kind of person I am, what I have done for my family, what goals I have. Nothing. Don't be so quick to pass judgement, it makes you seem really ignorant.
