I'd like to point out that it's possible to experience the grand ****tiness war without the benefit of being in the US military, or any military for that matter. That's the way war is experienced by most people in the world and the source of most of its casualties.

It seems petty to dismiss Charlie Murphy's opinion as a veteran because he wasn't an Eleven Bravo. I could easily say all the US military veterans have no right to talk about war since they've never been rocketed in their own homes like I have at random intervals for a decade, but then that would make me sound like I was trying to have a pissing contest about human suffering and I would rightly deserve to be dismissed as an empathy-challenged, mean-spirited crank.

I have a friend who went to jail to avoid the Israeli draft for no other reason than he didn't want to spend 3 years getting yelled at by teenaged NCOs and living in poverty when he'd rather be studying, or learning a trade or supporting his family and I don't begrudge him his conscience for doing it.

Anyone who knowingly volunteers years of their life to the thankless task of service to their country is worthy of respect, no matter what the job is or where they served.

Respect and credibility aren't the same thing. Anyone who served deserves respect, and Charlie Murphy is certainly included in that, however being that he was in the navy during peace-time, his credibility on the subject is questionable.

I was in the Army, but that doesn't give me the credibility to talk about the lives of those in the Israeli military because it's a subject I'd know very little about. See what I mean? If I was to talk about what it's like for people growing in Israel wouldn't you discredit my opinion if it was contrary to what people who actually grew up in Israel think?

As far as I'm concerned, I respect his opinion as a vet, but not to the point where it overrides the opinion of vets with experience more applicable to the situation.

Maybe it is God's plan for the left to be gullible and stupid. If so they are following the plan without any deviation.

You shouldn't question God's plan. He knows what's best for you.

Don't worry, I know God's plan for me! I have already been ransomed by the blood of the Lamb of God. Do you know God's plan for you?

I know all of God's plans. We talk everyday. We're tight like that.

I had another situation where a soldier lost his weapon on a CONUS Army base. He put it on top of a HMMWV at the beginning of a shift and forgot it was there, drove off, didn't notice until end of shift that it was gone  Command flipped and had all of us combing the base day and night for weeks looking for it. Turns out a contractor found it and took it home (ie, stole it(. But I think that was a more appropriate reaction to losing a sensitive item.

Our command in Iraq was freaking stupid and only cared about numbers.

"Meme" ? It's not a goddammed "meme" or a freaking talking point, it is a fact. The fact that you and people like you would dishonor the memories of the fallen to spread lies and pi$$ all over the truth for partisan gain is sickening.

Again, I have to ask: WTF is wrong with you? You are sick. I am actually a pretty laid back guy in real life, and there are probably 3 or 4 people on this board I wouldn't have a beer with - and you are one of them. I don't think I'd pi$$ on you if you were on fire. You make me sick.

I think we have a tendency to turn some of our criminals into superhumans. These guys have been in Guantanamo since 2002, they're shoe bombs are probably crocs. Besides we can do something to them that we couldn't do in Guantanamo, Drone them (which I don't agree with, but Americans are obsessed with, but that's another debate for another time). I just don't think I can say "**** it, leave that traitor, who left a war that we are in for oil and wealthy blue bloods' interests, behind where he's gonna get killed by extremists for representing us in the first place. Not when we can bring him home for essentially nothing, and give him the due process of the law that is given to every American citizen, even deserters.

Let's inject some reality to the situation Bergdol had to deal with.

you ignore all the members of Bergdahl's platoon who didn't go nuts. They all went through the exact same thing as Bergdahl.

sounds like republicans can get their story straight? Is this the death knell of the republican party?

All for it? but against it too?? nice:
mccain and ayotte (republican NH) were all for getting this guy.

A May 22 press release from Ayotte's office read, "As part of ongoing efforts to urge the Department of Defense to do all it can to find Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl

    FEB 18 Mccain:

Some lawmakers who have spoken critically in recent days of the Bergdahl deal had appeared, not too long ago, to have endorsed the concept of a prisoner swap, in which he could be exchanged for Taliban detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Take Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz). On Feb. 18, 2014, he told CNN's Anderson Cooper that he could support such an arrangement:

Nobody has ever said all folks have similar values, similar attacks of conscience, similar levels of empathy toward foreign peoples, similar resistance to ptsd, battle shock, whatever you want to call it.

LOL, the Stupid Party probably will accidentally kill itself some say, it's quite prone to shooting itself in the foot. But this ain't it. :p

McCain saying stupid **** isn't news. And he doesn't represent the Republican Party. No one does, really... Which is sorta the problem.

Your man in the WH done fuqed up this time, and people aren't happy. This is a ridiculous deal any way you look at it. Spin it any way you want, but trust me on this: your average American is going to take the word of multiple soldiers over the Administration any day of the week. People trust soldiers. No one (except brain-dead libtards) trusts the government.

I like this. Ripper was one of my favorite characters. Don't you think a world without Commies would be great? :p

If I laugh at this, am I laughing at myself? It's a good thing to laugh at yourself every once in a while, I think.
