Nope. It's the soldiers who are voluntarily critiquing this transaction. It is Republicans and Democrats (as you can see from this thread) that are outraged.

I know you want to desperately cling to any criticism of Obama as politicizing but that's just irrational (and frankly a bit pathetic).

The people who choose to be mad about this are the ones who are mad.

horrible thread title by OP Mr.Scarface.. He was looking to troll and make this an issue about Dems vs Repubs. Pretty pathetic mr OP. And now he's disappeared after there are legit reasons why some people are upset at the whole situation.

And this just tells me how incredibly stupid you are. Republicans want to beat you in elections so you don't run the country into the ground. We want to protect you from your own stupidity by taking the reigns of power away from you. Outside of that, we couldn't care less what you do with yourself.

The Taliban wants you to either convert to Islam and live your life in strict accordance with sharia or they want to kill you.

For what it's worth, I see people like yourself as a nearly equal threat, because if you had your way people like me would end up in re-education camps at some point. But the islamofascists are the more immediate threat, so they get the attention for now.

No, you misunderstand conservatives. We simply want to beat you in elections. Rounding people up and killing people en mass is generally a leftist tactic.

C'mon man, don't give them the Democrat vs Republican/Liberal vs Conservative argument the trolls are dying to start. This issue isn't partisan.

So if the only way to get him back was to release those 5 prisoners...are you guys suggesting that they just leave him there? How would have those crying foul, had handled the situation?

They could have sent an extraction team for him, they knew where he was, they actually could have done that several times over the years but the military decided that a deserter wasn't worth risking anything to get back.

They have a point, but I'd have authorized an op to extract him, then have him tried for desertion where he'd serve either life in prison or get the death penalty. I can justify putting soldiers at risk in a rescue op, but I can't justify releasing prisoners or negotiating with terrorists. It's just a bad precedent to set.

The President did exactly what republicans have been demanding he do for two years. Bring him home.

If they have evidence that he is an actual traitor then yeah, I think leaving him there would have been the right thing to do.

The military decided not to go after him even when they had precise location information because they didn't deem him worthy of risking a single more American life.

As I said several times I have mixed feelings about this case. I don;t want any American left with those savages, but at the same time if the reports are accurate - and there is no reason to believe they aren't - he chose his lot. I am happy for his family that he is home. I do think the price paid was way too high, but it's done. At this point I simply want to see him tried under ?UCMJ for desertion - or treason, if there is evidence of it.

How would I have handled it knowing what's come out today? Given what we've learned from those who knew him and were there I probably would have left him there, because it sounds an awful lot like he deserted and sought out the Taliban, and likely gave them information that got fellow Americans killed. As far as I am concerned a traitor forfeits all rights to have us come save his a$$.

The rank and file military are NOT happy about this at all. Think about that.

Who has been "demanding" that the president give over 5 Taliban leaders for him? When he brought it to the congress 2 years ago, EVERYONE told him no.....that's why he cut them out of the loop this time around. Don't pretend there was some kind of pressure on the president to do this, everyone was against it.

What, that rounding people up and killing them en mass tends to be a leftist tactic? Almost every mass murdering regime over the past 100 years has been leftist in nature, from the Bolsheviks to the Nazis to Mao's Chicoms to Pol Pot and the North Vietnamese... Yeah, it's certainly the preferred leftist tactic for dealing with political enemies. You'd have to ignore a lot of history to not get that.

There have been congressmen on the house floor demanding the President get this guy home. John McCain called for it on the Sunday talk shows in April.

It's late; see you in the morning.

Let's say a chopper full of soldiers gets shot down and they all die or are captured. What then? Does everyone say, "It's okay, at least the president tried."?

You have a scenario where soldiers have already died trying to rescue him. Then you send more and they die too. Or you work out some deal where you release 5 detainees and make it to where they are somehow recaptured. Who knows what the full plan is?

It's just amazing that people are so ready to jump on any opportunity they have to make a scandal and bash on the president. Oddly enough, the same people that are always so adamant about waiting on all the facts.
