I'm surprised that this many guys watch American Idol. Seriously, I'm not hating, I'm genuinely surprised.
American Karaoke is the biggest crap stain to hit music since Milli Vanilli or Vanilla Ice or both. If you like it, enjoy it. I'm sure it is entertaining. But, from a music standpoint, it sucks donkey balls.
me too, RM. I used to say that I wanted someone to shoot me if I ever started watching that... I hope no one listened. I was forced by a female to watch a few episodes, and before I knew what happened I wanted to see how it ended. By the way, DD, I agree with you on her duet with Rascal Flatts... I thought that was sung remarkably well. She held her own. I've actually heard that Simon likes to look away from the stage during the performances so that he can concentrate on the vocals. So that may be why she didn't get criticism. Whether it's fair or not, AI is a show that puts all the emphasis on voice and almost nothing on presence. Also, fwiw, country music isn't a genre that does a lot of running around on the stage, so it's not as important for her to have a strong presence as it is for Bo.
Thank you, Jeff. I believe my post above....if you like it, enjoy it, but personally I agree with you. I see American Idol as a prime example of the dumbing down of America.
The only people I personally know who watch the show are girls. And the guys I know who have been forced to watch it by their significant others absolutely hated it. It's kinda like finding out a guy likes to watch Oprah, IMO. Again, I'm not hating because television, music, film, art in general tastes are subjective. If you like to watch this show, more power to you.
I don't listen to him that often, but I like that name. It seemed appropriate. That's essentially what they are doing - singing other people's music in front of an audience.
I was once the proud owner of Milli Vanilli AND Vanilla Ice's albums. Man, puberty can really mess you up... I might buy Bo's album because he's the ANTI American Idol...rough around the edges, doesn't have the squeaky clean past, and he can play geetar...
I'm surprised that it's as popular among guys here. That's about it. Nothing surprises me any more with regards to what's popular among mainstream America.
I watched for the first time this season. I also thought Bo was the best. I really thought Carrie should've been voted off weeks ago.
naw...go ahead....be a hater. saves me the trouble of doing it. I will say one thing tho....walked thru while th ewife was wastching it...adn saw the dude you guys have talked about...is it just me...or does he look like he belongs in the Allman Brothers band?
You can call me a cheeseball all you want for watching this show. I don't care. I used to be a country singer. I wrote songs and sang, obviously, but I did a lot of covers, as well. I played to my crowd, and I never minded that. If American Idol ever allowed my age group in the competition, I would audition in a heartbeat. As for anyone who thinks this is a joke of a karaoke show, I'll ask this: If there were a national competition for the best guitarist/bassist/drummer, would you have no interest in viewing it? Would you audition? I'm thinking you would.
There were over 500 million votes counted, I think 120,000 hardly represents the bulk of the voters. I think that "An Angel brought me here" won it for Carrie. I love the rags to riches stories, and whether you think the show is cheesy or not it's fun to watch ordinary people do extraordinary things.
