hmmmm.. Well I'm single and I watch the show regularly.... Oh well, I suppose I'll spend the weekend at J.R.'s and Rich's. Thanks for the tip!
Sigh....another Tuesday night, another episode of American Idol...I gotta get a second TV...or maybe a set of balls to take the remote away from my wife. The term "Jump The Shark" gets thrown around a lot these days, but I think that disco crap last night was the official creme de la crappiness. They really butchered some disco classic (NOT an oxymoron), and hopefully that Marine booked his flight to Iraq last night with that weak attempt to sing Kool & The Gang. Also, I think Randy is being told by the producers to say "Dawg" after every sentence...not even black guys say it THAT much...
What's up with Simon turning on Clay all of a sudden? 2 weeks ago, he said Clay should win this competition. Last night, he changed his mind and said Ruben should win. WTF? Also, is there any doubt that Carmen is this year's Nikki McKibbin? She's protected up high by Simon, who picked her as his alternate choice. Therefore, Simon can't say anything bad about her. And as we all know, Simon's opinions DO matter regarding voting (although it's rigged anyway). She'll go farther in the show than Kimberely C., who has a much better voice and better stage presence (although she's SuperMegaFake). Has anyone noticed that Paula is incapable of saying a bad thing about anyone? It's like she's built with a set of prime directives, a la RoboCop: DIRECTIVE #1: Serve and protect the public. DIRECTIVE #2: Disagree with anything Simon says. DIRECTIVE #3: Compliment every singer on their stage presence and energy. DIRECTIVE #4: NEVER SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT ANY PERFORMER.
Bah! The season is finally over. My input on the final show: Two hours is waaaayyyy too long when people want to know one answer. This was dragged out too much. (guess Fox knows how to milk a cash cow) 10 of the final 12 were there doing renditions of various songs. Anyone who thought that Julia wasn't hot on tonight's episode is on crack. Josh and Corey weren't there. I'm assuming Josh had Marine obligations. I think they might have kicked Corey off outright, but don't know for sure. Geez, you'd think as long as they're dragging this out, they could let us know why people aren't there. According to the show, over 24 million votes last night (I wasn't one of them) and the difference was apparently only 1,335 votes. It was 50.28% to 49.72%. pretty impressive, if accurate, (although I expect they made it up.) Kelly Clarkson had a lot face time also. Kinda reminded me of a beauty pageant. And she sucked on tonight's show, but I'm assuming this is because she's been on tour for like the past eight months straight, so I'll cut her some slack. The final two were Ruben and Clay. But of course, the real winner will always be Simon Cowell (I could get lost in those eyes...) And the winner ends up being......Ruben Studdard. As I said a couple of months ago when I posted this, it almost seemed from the beginning like American idol was trying to go with Talent over looks, and I've kinda felt like this show was fixed. Clay simply had the better voice. Eh, whatever, I should kick myself for getting so engrossed in the show in the first place. The song finale at the end was nice. Warm gay fuzzy's for everyone.
RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBEN!!!!!!! 205!!! Woohoo! lol..........Yes! I hated that Clay guy. He said,"I'll beat him up later for stealing my title." WTF?!?? He never won anything. What's he talking about? Anyways.......Go Ruben! Woohoo....who's actually gonna buy his CD?
As goofy and cheesy and ambiguously gay as Clay was during the whole thing, he really does have a better voice than Ruben. The eventual Clay backlash was too much, I guess. Oh, well. They'll both go on to great things. I'll tell you this, though: Clay WILL sell more albums than Ruben. If you don't think so, get a load of this... 'This Is The Night' ''Idol'''s Clay beats Ruben in online sales. Here's one sign that Clay Aiken might be the ''American Idol'' champ -- he's trouncing his rival on Amazon.com Whether or not Clay Aiken triumphs on ''American Idol,'' he's already beat Ruben Studdard on one front: the sales chart on Amazon.com. Thanks to pre-orders, Clay's forthcoming single, ''This Is the Night/ On the Wings of Love,'' is the best-selling music item in the entire online store. Meanwhile, Ruben's ''Flying Without Wings/Superstar'' comes in at No. 7, behind such established acts as Norah Jones and Staind (see the chart). Whether this means Clay truly has more fans than Ruben -- or just more fans with Internet access and credit cards -- remains to be seen. Still, Ruben shouldn't despair: EW is picking Mr. Alabama area code 205 as the 2-1 favorite to win, compared to Clay's slightly longer 4-1 odds. But, really, there ARE no losers here. The first-place finisher's CD single will hit stores June 3, while the runner-up's will drop June 10.
I'm kinda glad that Ruben won. He reminded me of a friend of my sister's who died in a car wreck about a year ago. This was in Magnolia. They were both big black guys, sounded the same and even kinda looked the same. This guy was supposed to sing in my sister's wedding. His name was PJ Daniels, and he sounded EXACTLY like Ruben. He was very popular in Magnolia, everyone knew him. As a matter of fact, when Ruben was first on American Idol, me, my mom, and my sister all said he reminded us of PJ. After the show was on, more people said how he reminded us of PJ. PJ would have done very well on American Idol, and would have definitely made it to Hollywood(past the first cut). He had an amazing voice. This concludes my little story. I am glad Ruben won now thjat I think of it.
My point is, do you really think Ruben won? I personally do not. This season seemed like the judges had a lot more control this time, and that's a shame. Producers!!! Please quit telling us what we should listen to, and let us make up our own damn minds!!! Also, teens make up the majority of CD sales. Do you really think they all voted for Ruben? Not me. Reuben's are a good sandwich, not necessarily a pop phenom. (And I would still shoot a lion in the face for a date with Julia.)
I believe that they did all vote for Ruben. You think teens would vote for a geeky, skinny guy or a huge, lovable and emotional guy. IMO the vast majority of teens voted for Ruben.
fatman: (the fact that I get to call someone else fat makes me chuckle) The fact that Clay outsold Ruben 3-1 over the weekend tells me that the show is fixed. Face it. Teenage girls like harmless guys.. Remember the horrible Corey era in the 80's? Facts are facts, and the fact that I watched both seasons leads me to believe that America's vote didn't mean diddly squat this year.
I think Ray Ratto at ESPN2 put it best... The NBA Draft Lottery has been elevated to prime time, on the theory that any society that can make itself care about two male singers whose budding musical careers have K-Tel written all over them can care about LeBron James' next day job.
Jeff: don't rub it in too hard. I already hate myself enough for watching this show. (The saddest part is that the first couple of shows are great! You watch people acting like idiots and Simon telling them to shut up, and rightfully so! And then, you just get sucked in.) As far as reality programs go, however, this is a great one, because there is no backstabbing, and you truly feel bad when one gets ousted. (Sorry, gay fatty came out for a sec. there!)
I just can't believe that they're doing the "From Justin to Kelly" movie, which Fox describes as a "romantic comedy set against the backdrop of Spring Break in Miami." It might cripple both Justin and Kelly's careers. Will there be a "From Clay to Reuben" as well, where Clay and Reuben play gay lovers?
First things first, Julia is gorgeous I dont think it was fixed, althugh I do think Clay was the better "vocalist." I didnt feel Rueben had the range that Clay did although Rueben can belt out slower ballads beautifully. The last show was to long when you factor in that it was on Mon, Tues and Wed. I could have handled 2 hours if they didnt try and milk this thing for all it`s worth by having it on 3 straight days. Last but not least, Paula looks better now then she did 15 years ago
We went out last night and didn't get home until 10:00, so we taped American Idol. My wife's friend called us and left us a message on the answering machine telling us the outcome...she was piiiiiiissed. I mean, imagine standing in line for Empire Strikes back in 1980, and somebody coming out of the theater screaming, "Oh my god, I can't believe Darth Vader is Luke's father!!" THAT is how pissed she was
