Simon's reaction to Fantasia's performance last night was the most awesome thing that's happened all season long...
lol. I missed Fantasia's performance last night so I didn't catch it. Funny as hell though. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EmrF5mCHNjI&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EmrF5mCHNjI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
yeah that was awesome. I had the same thoughts as Simon did I think in vaguely listening to her stuff.. (but I never liked Fantasia one bit..)
The final was last night and clearly Archuletta sang much better, and had the better show. BUT, I think Cook is more talented and someone I would go see over the milk toast Archuletta. That being said......Dial Idol predicts: Spoiler David Cook to be the winner DD
David Cook's rendition of "The World I Know" was better than the original, IMO. His other 2 songs last night were kind of meh, though. I'm not too surprised by the Dial Idol results. Spoiler I saw in a USA Today poll the other day that EVERY demographic, except for the 13-19 year old group, favored Cook overwhelmingly. These numbers seem to confirm that fact. In addition, my theory is that the fanbases for the other ousted contestants were all put off by the major pimpage that Archuleta got last night (and in weeks past) and threw their combined weight behind Cook. Any way you slice it, one thing is readily apparent: Archuleta is a good singer, but he ain't no pop star, and it seems that people are beginning to wise up to that fact. Thank God. So, will my faith in humanity be restored tonight with a Cook win? Or will my nightmare of a "Idiocracy"-like society win out with an Archuleta win? Furthermore, if milquetoast munchkin loses tonight, will his father go ballistic, jump on stage, and beat his son to a bloody pulp?
Fingers crossed. How annoying is Archuletta's "Oh Gosh" face after a judge pays him a complement. He seems like a good guy so I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does.
Sadly, I sorta wondered the same thing (especially the last part of your post). As "Archie" was crying last night, I couldn't tell if he was crying genuine tears of joy or he was crying about the thought that his life is about to be a living hell thanks to daddy. Come to think about it - his life is already a living hell thanks to daddy, regardless if he wins or loses, lol. I really hope that David Cook doesn't win because I am afraid if he does win, he'll be forced by Clive Davis or some other ancient old fart to record specific songs in a specific genre and not record material that he would want to do. All those great arrangements like "Billie Jean" and "Hello" would be absent on an album directed by Davis - just ask Kelly Clarkson how receptive old Clive is to songs on a "pop star"'s album that aren't pop.
Archuletta is going to win, because AI always picks people who don't have what it takes. Stupid America!
yep i hate when he shakes his head and does the o gosh thanks like he cant believe that paula is complementing him even though she has said the same thing like the past 10 weeks
Nope. The band's album was produced by Zac Maloy of Nixons fame. He also wrote/produced a couple songs (or at least one) on Daughtry's album. I have never watched American Idol beyond the first rounds until this year. If Cook doesn't win, I won't watch again.
I'm pulling for Archuletta. He's simply a far superior singer, in my opinion. I'm hoping Dial Idol is off a little bit because it doesn't count text messages. If Archuletta has the 13-19 age group, then he's definitely going to have an ass load of text votes.
I really wanted Cook to win it. But Archuletta beat the hell out of him last night. Cook sang a so-so 1st song (U2), terrible 2nd one (though it was tough).. and then he did a great job on the 3rd (Collective Soul), but it just didn't fit. Wasn't the right song at all. You want to go out on a winning note, something uplifting/get people going/inspirational/something like that. Bad choice.. Archuletta did ok on the 1st one (worse than Cook's 1st I thought, but whatever), but then much better than Cook on the 2nd, and equally good on Imagine...bonus for it being the right song choice. so yeah, Archuletta deserves to win it. And cook will outsell him
Well first off I think the judge's bias last night was clearly evident. And second, I actually disagree with what they, especially Simon, thought. It wasn't knockout punch as they claim. Archuletta is the better singer, that's obvious, but Cook is the better overall performer and last night proved it. What doesn't seem to get talked about nearly enough, especially last night, was that Cook has so much more versatility than Archuletta, at least based on the show. The problem I have with Archuletta is he always sings slow, sappy songs and when he tries to pick a more up-tempo song it feels, as Simon put it, like a theme park ride. Last night, Cook played three distinctly different songs. And not only that, but he went against tradition and didn't rehash any previous performances and played something new for his third song. Why does that make it a wrong song choice? I agree that he should go out with a bang and probably should have played The World I Know 2nd and the Idol original 3rd, but Archuletta sang a slow song as well for his third song and there was no mention of that being out of place. So you have the judges basically endorsing a very young performer who probably won't sell records outside his core audience over somebody who easily could be a star in the Daughtry mold (if not a little better), who's experienced and seasoned enough to make a hit album right away and who could reach a wider audience. So it really makes me wonder about Simon's "star" comment to Archuletta. If anything, neither should win. Cook winning could very well hamper his abilities (much like Clarkson who didn't break out until she broke away from Davis). And Archuletta winning could screw his career since he's so young. He could easily be forgotten like many past winners, which is a shame because he does seem to have a lot of potential.
Well, one thing to remember is that neither guy is really winning while the other guys is losing. They're both actually winners already because this isn't a game show, it's a talent show. Their talent has been on display for months now and they will be rewarded accordingly no matter how they finish. Kudos to them both. I still hope David A. wins.
Nice backtrack by Simon once he knew that Cook was going to win. It's something he had to do though, otherwise he would have had to say that America made a mistake which would have thrown a negative vibe on the last show of the year.
The winning song doesn't seem like Cook's style though...I would have preferred the song he chose last night.
