yeah, there's no reason if a person is the most qualified they should feel like they should win if they aren't white (which is what non minority means) I mean, I thought we live in america
that's a very unfair, partisan thing to say. Colin Powell and Condi Rice held very high offices as GOP. If either ran, they would get a lot of support.
Um, why are you inserting "a black man" in front of every verb in every clause of your run-on sentence? I'm not using that inflammatory language -- you are.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this...Is this how far we've come...but I digress... Is he black? Is he not black enough? Whatever, the only thing thing that matters: Is he qualified to run the country? IMHO, no... The reason we're discussing this is because he just happens to be black and honestly, I'm not sure some people in this country are ready for that...rightly or wrongly...
I agree with you that race could very well cost Obama the election. Some people here though seem to think that is a GOP problem. While they would benefit, the GOP voters weren't going to vote for Obama anyways. So basically, Palin could swing a few percentage points from women who want a woman in office. And racism amongst Democrats and independents could swing another few percentage points. I'm not sure what Democrats could do in that situation. I think this small percentage voters will not be swayed either way. They should just do their best on getting a huge voter turnout.
I agree that there will definitely be folks who vote against Obama because he is black. Wouldn't you agree that there will be those who vote for Obama because he is black?
I'm sorry but the thing that makes a person black is the color of their skin. I don't think any person (be it Obama or Powell or Alan Keyes) would be less "black" because of any cultural upbringing.
yes some people will vote for him just because he's black but i think the reverse is more true. or rather, the effect would be greater and Obama posts a net loss.
Would it be accurate to say, that since most folks tend to vote along party lines, that it would mostly be Democrats and Independants that do not vote for him because he is black and most Republicans won't vote for him because he is a Democrat?
I'm probably falling into a trap here, but I think that would be fair to say. Even though I'm a GOP, I would probably hazzard a guess and say that there are more "racists" among registered Republicans than Democrats. However, those racists were not going to have their vote swung one way or the other. It's the small percentage of racist Dems and independents that could swing this election. Just like Obama being black does not really help him out with black voters as they were going to go Democrat anyways. I'm usually wrong..
Exactly. I'm not sure where that poster said earlier in this thread that the Republicans now "have an excuse" to not vote for Obama. Why do they need an excuse? They're voting against him for the same reason they vote against every other Democratic nominee.....because he's a DEMOCRAT.
