I do agree with your points regarding Amen apart from being a terrible finisher at the rim. It's not very good right now though. He has very good court vision. He's just not ready for the NBA even as a proper backup PG. He needs to play off the bench under the guidance of a veteran PG who can teach him how and when to shoot the ball.
2 years away from being an NBA player. Ausar Thompson is ahead of him developmentally. Cam Whitmore is ahead of both of them.
If he can show a willingness to learn when to shoot and when to pass, he will become a solid NBA player imo.
My concern is that he just doesn't have "it", and by "it" I mean that feel for the game which allows guys to read the floor and make quick, sound decisions. Players can get a bit better at that through experience and repetition, but it's not something that is easy to teach. Mostly guys either have "feel for the game" or they do not.
He’s young and that’ll come with coaching. Most of guys lack strength and physicality, that won’t be the case with Cam. Plug him in at the 3 and let’s get it!
This. It's not valid to bring up players in a completely different era who shot poorly by current NBA standards in defense of a current player who shoots poorly by middle school standards. Could he turn it all around? Anything is possible, but till he learns how to shoot at something AT LEAST approaching a Russell Westbrook level.....something that would take MASSIVE improvement, he'll be nothing more than a shorter version of Giannis....which isn't an NBA player.
Define developmentally. Ausar is ahead of Amen when it comes to scoring and shooting the ball (but not by much). Amen is ahead or Ausar as a ball handler, passer and in the half court. Cam is a better shooter than Amen and Ausar, and he can finish better than Ausar. However, Cam is WAY behind both Amen and Ausar as a passer and playmaker - and his mid game is behind both Thompson's as well. Cam holds onto the ball and isolates way too often for someone that isn't a dominant scorer. I like all 3 of them - but Cam has as many issues as either Thompson twin.
it's definitely a fatal flaw in addition to the others. And there's not enough room on this board to post what his lack of shooting does and the countless examples
and he not only sucked, he made his team suffer too. Is that what were praising now? Imagine this 20 win rockets team with this
