Send him back down. He's not ready to play in a NBA rotation. Hopefully he will be February or March.

 

So I guess we just drafted this dude with zero plan in place for him. Wasting his season with this gameplan.

He’ll have one good game for every 20 games. Just have that same energy when he scores his typical 10 points.

 

I mean...we don't know that. We don't know anything about Amen or his abilities because he touches the ball about twice a game.

 

Didn't seem like Amen has played enough to even know what was happening out there.

 

He’s only 20 yrs old, yet scores efficiently and has a top 10ish defensive rating. Learn ball.

 

The problem is that FVV rightly or wrongly plays the most minutes in the league which leaves Amen with bread crumbs.

Amen can't shoot and has to have ball in hand so he is pretty much out there doing cardio for the time being.

 

So I ask again, assuming this is all correct: Why did we draft him?

 

Fine by me. He needs to get adjusted to the nba pace. He sees the court just as well as any of the top pg's. His shot will come and he has the length and speed to just dominate to the hole. He needs to just bulk at this point. Kid looks like he needs a sandwich or three a day.

 

He looked tentative out there....as if the ankle is still bothering him.

 

I think at the top end of the draft that GM's go for best player available more often than not.

His shot is so broken mechanically. I'm not convinced it'll just come around over time.

If he can't shoot, has a broken shot that won't ever come around, has to have the ball in his hands, and doesn't fit with our best players, how was he considered the "best player available"?

I ask this all hypothetically because I don't agree. He can excel at defense, cutting, slashing, driving, pick and roll, etc. That's stuff he showed in the G League & preseason. But the Rockets, and I'm not exaggerating, do not allow him to touch the basketball. It's ridiculous.

Either send him to the G League or trade him before you obliterate his value. Because right now he's being totally wasted.

 

He was getting the ball a lot more early in the season before getting injured again. This is his first game back. You could tell he still isn't feeling well. Two grade 2 ankle sprains then an illness - Rockets didn't waste a pick, Amen just needs to stay healthy and play more.

 

Yeah I think he wasn’t quite feeling 100% yet. To me he looked a bit slow out there. Give him another couple days and I assume he’ll be back to 100%. I just hope he’s not one of these guys where it seems like there’s always something.
