Based on his high IQ and "developing" shooting he is the anti KPJ. So Point Guard. Or according to Stone... the opposite of point guard? Center.
I always saw him as a Center. Scouting report. He can’t shoot, he has long arms. Defense. Midget Twin brother
Point guard. I think you could play him as a three, but then he loses his size advantage. He's quick enough to keep up with most opposing 1s, so why not play him there? That said, he may get some minutes backing up the 2 and 3 spots while playing behind FVV.
He's a PG, but he'll probably play anywhere 1-3 whilst he's developing and not struggle at any of them from a size/speed/athleticism standpoint. I do find it funny that people are trying to create a narrative of him replacing Jalen at the 2 guard spot. Looks to me that it's more plausible Jabari takes the starting C spot with Tari sliding in at the 4.
Yes, he was a very undersized guard shooting off the pine that evolved into a better PG over time and out of necessity. He quickly went from playing 20 minutes to playing 37-38 and being run into the ground. He will go to playing 30-33 minutes.
We know that it's not like the 1970s anymore but we really haven't updated terminology to keep up with the evolving roles of modern basketball players. We just kind of term it "positionless" basketball which is just like saying we don't know what to call it. Position is somewhat determined by skill, somewhat by size, and I guess a smaller portion of it is by intent. For someone like Amen, his frame is in line with traditional small forwards and his skill is that of a point guard. This allows him to be at an advantage against smaller guards while also having the heft to stand up to more, and larger, players on defense. It certainly allows for flexibility in lineups. But that doesn't really answer the question. And to me, the answer is he's not a guard or a forward. He's just a point.
I could care less which position he plays, just let him play. If he got 20mpg this season it would say something special about him. More than that - oh please! Just make 30% from 3 this year please
Positionless is basically an extension of players that can play multiple positions and are universally skilled.
