Congrats to Amen! Besides all-world athletic ability, he has elite instincts and the dawg to want to stop anyone from scoring!! Love, love that this young man is part of our Rockets and hope he continues to develop his offensive game as well.
Usually we agree - but not this time. It was close this year but Dyson Daniels is better than Amen Thompson. There is more upside with Amen defensively. I think at this point we can call it - Jalen Green was a poor choice by Stone and the Rockets. Evan Mobley was the better pick. Before someone says I am throwing shade at Stone, he did want Dyson Daniels and tried to work something out to draft him. We could have had 3 all first team defenders with Mobley/Daniels/Thomson… Ime would swear off women for that trio on defense.
Dillon brooks getting two votes is laughable. Brooks defense is not good. He can’t even guard wings anymore. I’d give Sengun or FVv a vote before Dillon.
I'm not convinced Dyson is a better defensive player than Amen--Daniels generates more turnovers, but Amen is significantly better at altering shots. His opponent FG% is lower than Dyson's from every distance.
I swear to all of the Gods, Goddesses, Sky wizards and abstract personifications in the multiverses, they better have a fire ass jersey option next season for Amen. I can't believe we went from Dunkstranout (idgaf, I still feel like that jersey deserves to have Green's name on it in my collection tbh) to that generic off-brand **** this season. I'm hoping we're getting a slight update to the main ones too tbh because they went fully out of stock towards the end of the season. I need at least 2 new jersey options for next season, regardless of trades I can't be walking around in loads of #4 jerseys lmao.
Daniel’s doesn’t defend as wide a variety of players as Amen can - but you also have to look at who is around Daniels. It’s close enough to debate - I personally think Daniels was marginally better in 2025.
Dyson is the ONLY defensive player on Atlanta's squad. Stands out more. However, he does it without good coaching, so it's all instinct.
Daniels' hands should be registered as dangerous weapons when he's defending the ball, but he doesn't come close to Amen when it comes to help defense, contesting and blocking shots and lateral quickness. His crazy steal numbers got Daniels huge publicity early in the season and he grabbed a large chunk of mindshare. Amen wasn't on the national press radar until February. It's all good because Draymond didn't win after his pathetic lobbying campaign.
Draft Mobley, we don't trade for Sengun Honestly Mobley is soft, playoffs has exposed him. Sengun>>Mobley Mobley>>Green Green & Sengun>>Mobley
Not sure about that. Hawks as a team somehow have a much better defensive rating with him off the floor than on. Meanwhile Amen was #4 overall in individual defensive rating. Daniels is #20. I know Daniels has the gaudy steal/deflection numbers but the advanced numbers all favor Amen by a wide margin.
Fair enough, he definitely played on a lot worse of a defense. Would love to have him on the team and I agree it's pretty close. The other player I really feel like we missed out on in that draft is Jalen Williams. Understandable, as he wasn't really in the conversation for the top 5, but still.
