Hart averaged .1 3PAs per game this year and didn’t make a single three. Not. A. Single. Three. God Rockets fans say some really dumb stuff sometimes.
One thing that baffles me with regard to Amen’s shooting is that he has made huge strides from the FT line. He went from .684 on 3.6 FTAs last season to .776 on almost 5 FTAs - that’s a dramatic improvement. Generally, I think there’s a pretty strong tie between FT shooting and 3 point shooting in that I have greater confidence in a player developing a deep shot if he’s good from the line. Amen seemingly is bucking that trend.
and so amen can be the anti thesis of that correlation so far. look at his 3 point form over the years. even sengun’s form is more promising.
Sengun has a weird hitch in his release, you can really see it on his free throws from the backboard cameras. He throws a little screwball, but he also lofts it way more than Amen does, so he actually gives the ball a chance to go in. Amen seems like he's removed the hitch, but he throws passes at the rim instead of offering any loft at all. He can get away with it on his middy but if the free throw is to correlate to range, he's got to put some arc in there. He's walking a tightrope with it currently and falling off too much to continue without revision. I've noticed he's on line quite regularly, just catching too much rim because he's just passing it to the rim. To be completely honest, if Amen continued improving his handle I think that would make him more effective than a 35% 3 pointer. He flashes to the paint so easily, if he had a bag of counters when he gets there or increased his ability to drive and kick I believe the impact is higher than him suddenly going 1/3 from distance instead of 1/4.
I agree with this. Amen has very good form. even his three-point form improved this year, especially from the corner. Sengun, definitely has a hitch and the form is inconsistent. I think the odds are much more likely for Amen to improve more.
