Really loved this episode because of it's light-hearted nature. Very rarely do we have some comic relief in this world and not very often do we have an episode where you feel the stakes aren't high. It was a nice lull in the overall main story, even though there were a few important developments. I wish we could get more tangential episodes like this.
The car/truck is not required as a plot device. If the plot needs to have someone witnessing, they just show a different angle later. They've done scenes before where somewhere is watching, but only to reveal them in a later episode, with no need for clues. I'm on the side who thinks it was a production mistake. Once you spot it in editing, why go back to re-film the scene? The scene does require a pyrotechnic team on site...hidden somewhere off camera, until needed. Seems like too much minor plot-setup that's unneeded. I doubt they are sitting around saying they need hidden clues in distant backgrounds to add suspense to the show. I don't know. Maybe they did it just so people on the internet would see it and talk about it.
Easily could have edited the car out if it was a mistake. Wouldnt be surprised if the explosion was mainly CGI itself. But if it was, could see them leaving it in just for the speculation.

The explosion wasn't CGI. It was a real explosion. They blew up a bunch of dummies with propane tanks. They said as much in "Talking Dead". Perhaps the car means nothing and perhaps it means something. How would Negan ever know who blew up his guys if no one was there to witness it? I assume he is going to find out somehow who did it because just coming up on the scene in the aftermath isn't going to tell him.
Rewatch the scene. That wasn't a CGI explosion. You'll even be able to judge it from multiple angles, and it was done with multiple cameras.
I still don't see why a hidden clue in the distant background is a necessary plot device. I certainly didn't see it until the Internet told me to look for it. All your explanations of Negan (or other) seeing it are still possible without some distant plot device. In previous episodes, they have some mysterious person see something, but didn't reveal that until later by having a different view of the same scene. At first I said, OK maybe. But now the fact we are 2 months in advance, and Negan didn't attack, is what makes me believe that it was a mistake in production. But I don't know. Maybe they need that car in the background to justify why Jesus appeared out of nowhere 2 months later, to launch a bumbling Ninja attack when they stop the truck.
His character is interesting but hasn't been fleshed out much in the comics. He knows martial arts, is competent on his own in the wild. Pretty accurate portrayal of him on the show, except he is even more of a badass in the comics. There's no way that Rick and Darryl would have beaten him. Without even Googling it, Rick points out that Jesus' beard is trimmed. This indicates that he at least has a safe place to hang his hat. It happens all the time- I grew 8 inches when I was 12.
Only thing I could think while watching this episode is how bad ass Jesus is.. Let's add ninja thief to those skills. They killed soccer mom.. y u do dis to me TWD?
Yeah but the actor actually aged 4 years in real life compared to 1 year in the show. It's not just the height, his voice dropped two octaves and he's sporting a five o clock shadow. It's a bit much. I would at least like them to add a passing comment like "Carl went on a crazy growth spurt this past year".
Ya TWD said it was a real explosion. But still could have edited out the car if they wanted to, wouldn't need a re-shoot.
Yeah, that was a shame. She was pretty. Rick gives the kiss of death. I agree; I was just playing devil's advocate. They should have looked at Coral's parents when they cast him. He's going to end up being two feet taller than Rick.
Spoiler From what I remember, it's a small confrontation on the road, but Rick is involved. No bazookas. Similar results.
I was wondering is that the end of the Wolves or are they part of Negan's group? Negan's group does not appear to have W on their forehead.
