He didn't have to use reisin, he just had to poison brock to turn jesse against walt and make him think it was the reisin.

sorry it seems i provided examples, and didn't make my stance clear enough (5:00 AM post :) ).

My point is that the whole poison Gus story was by no means a secret. If you follow Gus's character, his actions, his EXTENSIVE knowledge. and manner in hwich he conducts business, its almost impossible that walt going to jesse's house all the time to discuss the plan, them muttering stuff out in public in their not so secretive code words and what other countless blunders just flew right over Gus's head. They emphasize it over and over, "Gus knows everything about the people he does business with."

Now that we have his character established lets take a look at the context:

Walt takes a huge step against Gus and is even stupid enough to try and convince Mike to help him kill him. In no way does Gus trust him, but he needs him, for the time being. The only other guy that could pose as a potential cocinero is Jesse, but he has major problems with him. So he decides to see if loyalty is something Jesse has, and if he can trust him.
It starts out with the initial car ride where Mike won't say anything to jesse on where they're going, doing all he can to provoke an escape/ attack response from Jesse. Jesse clinches his keys for a long period of time but doesn't do anything the whole day. And when they get to the setup with the robbers and jesse running them over, he comes and picks up Mike right away.

Thats not good enough though, for a guy like Gus who already knows people as well they know themselves he probably bugs him. Now the cigarette reisin is gold. Knowing jesse has this poison he decides to see if he uses it or not, and when he doesn't over a period of time he actually trusts him to the point he lets the useless degenerate junkie take over his meth lab. The problem is, jesse won't give up walt just like walt never gave up jesse. Now walt the loose end that he knows wants to kill him is just prancing around and he can't do a damn thing about it.
His manipulative nature surfaces over and over as hes trying to convince the same guy who he said could never be trusted, to let go of his partner, every DEA transgression against them etc.

Now knowing that walt and jesse's master plan to poison him is in recess he decides to use the one thing that jesse is absolutely convinced only him and walt know about against him. Jesse is extremely sporadic though, does he want to kill the boy and have jesse acting carelessly enough to jeapordize his business? (Gang-Kid eexample) He poisons brock and takes the cigarrete to keep brock sick long enough for jesse to kill walt.

Don't forget that walt isn't the only expert on poisons, gus managed to kill a whole cartell leaders while poisoning himself at the same time.

I do however also agree with the point that the writers may just be screwing with us, creating confusion and unanswerable questions to elicit interest and an open mind to character changes development that may happen. Great show, I'm surprised all they did was shake hands I thought a hug was in order tbh.

Not that I'm a supporter of the Gus-poisoner theory, but there were a few times where I'd wonder if either Walt or Jesse were being watched. If Gus had just warned Walt to keep away from Jesse, wouldn't there be people tracking both Walt and Jesse? They seemed to be in contact a lot, without raising any flags with Gus. And Walt actually finding out who Andrea and Brock was, where they lived, and getting brock to consume the poison.

Reading the interviews with Vince Gilligan, he said something about letting some of the questions go unanswered for mystery's sake, but it's definitely a stretch of the imagination to believe that Walt could execute the Jesse part of his plan in such a limited amount of time.

I have 1,600 posts on Clutchfans, but if I had to only make one...

I think the writers could play the "Gus's children" angle. While preparing a meal Gus mentioned to either Jesse or Walt that his children did not like his traditional cooking. Perhaps foreshadowing that Gus's children are not in the business - "the traditional cooking". Besides, I think it would be too cliche to use since we have yet to hear of them.

Ever since the airplane accident I have always wondered if that will ever come to bite Jesse in the ass. I have this feeling that the investigation is not over yet.

I will say that I am one of those who was hoping season 4 would be the last, and even until the second to last episode I was still screaming bloody murder to my brother that this season should be the last. Boy was I wrong. Just one more, please, just one more.

I enjoyed the season (the 2nd half at least) but some of the plot holes really took away from it. The other seasons had parts of where it required you to suspend belief but it was writing that was easy to buy into because it was more of just cartoony than illogical. Illogical like the whole cigarette thing, it's a legitimate plot hole. How would he know how many cigs Jesse had in the pack? It could have been full or almost empty. Not only that they established Huell as a lumbering, inept oaf, now suddenly he has David Blane sleight of hand. Also in the post finale interview VG kind of blows off the question of how Walt poisoned Brock. The end of the season was definitely thrilling though and a fun watch.

Breaking Bad and Mad Men > every show in the past 5 years

both up there with the greatest dramas (The Wire, The Sopranos)

watch it, don't read this thread until you've completed the 4th season

How many seasons are there and how many more will there be? I would prefer it if like next season was last. I can't stand shows that just keep going on and on with no direction. Just creating a bunch of random drama to keep it going.

Next season, the 5th is the last but it will consist of an extended 16 episodes rather than the usual 13. This isn't the type of show you are describing, this is a highly regarded grade A drama.

Just know that it's widely considered one of the "big four" (Mad Men, The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad). You don't keep that kind of company without being pretty damn good.

wow! i bet you feel dirty!

i watched most of the first season and had to stop. came back to it at the end of season 2 though and have followed all the way through.

i went out of the country right before the season 3 finale and couldnt get up the nerve to watch it till right before the start of season 4. thats what this show does to me.

finally got to watch the finale. Awesome.

I like how Gus walked out initially. Did not think it was cheesy at all, I though it added a nice little initial doubt before finally getting closure.

Totally agree...the audience thinks this guy is basically indestructible at this point. It was a simple and perfect way to toy with the audience one last time.

The cinematic techniques they come up with in this show are pretty much unparalleled.

Just finished Season 2...wasn't as good as season 1, but good enough to watch the next 2 seasons. My cousin tells me season 3 is the best so, looking forward to it.
