what i mean to say is that the logic isn't there if you want to say an article like this sheds light on why we don't have contingency planning in iraq. just because bush may or may not have known a damn thing about islam doesn't mean that EVERYONE else in his admin or close to him in his admin didn't know anything about islam.

 

Isn't that very similar to catholism just more of a geo-cultural split - I believe that Eastern Orthodox are allowed communion in a catholic church -

 

No, Sisihir, I didn't. There are two main branches of Christianity, the two I mentioned. Short of listing a host of others, including Greek Orthodox, which contains a significantly fewer numbers of adherents, in comparison to the two I mentioned, I decided to stick to what would be comparable to the two main branches of Islam. I may be agnostic, but history is a passion of mine, as is travel, which has brought me into contact with people of all sorts of religions, as well as visiting many of their most holy places in the process... something endlessly fascinating.

You do realize that the shi'ite/sunni discord didn't reach such levels until recent modern history, right? The opposing shi'ite/sunni caliphate dynasties never really took up arms against each other as it was more of a Cold War during the times that any two were even both at their peaks.

Christians have a history of in-fighting and persecution and that you are denying this is completely laughable. However, unlike you, it's not my style to try to show the superiority of one religion over any other.
