It's not an attempt to make it seem that they're both for the same thing. It's a response to the sentiment that the iPad immediately obsoletes e-Readers, which was and is the prevailing sentiment among people who don't own an e-Reader.
i think ipad guy was just hitting on her...working to get her inside so he could cozy up and get a closer look at her, um, kindle.
I have a Kindle, got it before the iPad. The problem I have with the Kindle is you can't really zoom in easily and look at charts and graphs in books. I'm not sure if the iPad is better in that regard.
I will say that I can definitely feel eye strain if I play with my ipad for too long. Now, keep in mind that I have always had bad eyesight, got LASIK done about 5 years ago, and as I get older my eyes may just be slowly going from their post-LASIK 20/20 to something worse (which happens with LASIK), AND I use a computer at work a fair amount, too. But even with that, i think there is definite ipad eye strain (as I do use it a fair amount), and find myself adjusting the brightness somewhat. I have not read too many books on the ipad, and perhaps this isn't as much an issue when reading a book as it is when going form app to app, website to website, playing games, etc. Maybe I'm just an old curmudgeon, but I'm not sold on the ipad as a book replacement device. To use to read books occasionally (on vacation, on a plane, sure), but to replace say 30 minutes of reading before going to bed, I prefer the actual book. Would I feel differently about a Kindle? No idea.
I thought it was more like someone blowing air, at room temperature, in a sound proof booth, in the dark.
I've seen her on a few commercials in the past. She used to be on a jewelry commercial and one other recent commercial that I forget. It's amazing how pointless and useless commercials are - half the time I don't even remember what the heck they're advertising, but I can remember some lady on them. lol.
If telling our experiences with our iPad makes me part of the "Apple Defense Force", then I am guilty as charged.
I'd rather have a Kindle for an ereader. Unfortunately for Amazon the iPad isn't just an ereader. You'd think they might want to pay some attention to the Nook.
I just discovered this new thing out, called a 'Book'... It's very useful, it comes in paperback or hard cover... I've managed to pick up like 5 of them consider me lucky boy!!!!
My household owns both a Kindle and an Ipad. The Kindle is even a first generation version. I like the Ipad OK, its a good coffee table PC to do quick email or web surfing while on the TV. I would never use it as a book reader over the Kindle, however. e-ink is amazingly simple yet awesome technology. Kindle (and Nook and Sony I guess) have actually made digital paper a reality. It is easy to read, just like real paper. I actually get a lot more use out of my Kindle that the Ipad, to tell the truth.
While politically correct enough for my comfort level, it'd have still been nice to see a woman of color pwning him.
The ad specifically emphasizes the 2 major changes that Bezos made to Kindle in version 3 and has been talking up in the trades for months. It's cheaper and the improved e ink screen with better contrast and readability in different conditions. Kindle is cheap basically like a pair of shoes or couple of playstation games. On the road I use both Ipad and Kindle. If you're going to read something Kindle is lighter, faster and better to use. Kindle is probably worth it if you're the type to buy a couple books a month otherwise it's completely not. But at least Kindle has a (situational) use where it's actually the best platform for something. Ipad is totally a toy. If you're a normal person with a phone and a laptop you can completely live without your ipad and not miss it. And the Ipad isn't good enough to replace your phone OR your computer. Sometimes I wonder why I bought one other than the hype.
