My girlfriend called me up this morning and asked if I had purchased anything on Amazon.com using her bank account. I told her no, I haven't ordered anything online since January. Then she tells me that there are 2 charges on her bank statement, one for $9+ and the other for $70+ both with Amazon.com. So she calls and talks to them but they don't have any information in the system matching her records.

What kind of scam is this? Has this happened to anybody before? Her mom actually work at her bank so the trace is on but how did this happen anyway?

    Phishing. Never trust the internet.
In fact, you shouldn't even trust me.

OK but they have already taken the money out of her account and everything.

There isn't any kind of identification number or anything on the online bank stament that you could cross reference with amazon? That's really wierd that the statement says amazon but they have no record of the transaction. If they billed you through there credit card system they have to have some record of it.

I'll check on that Stack. The main thing is, we want to get her money back if at all possible and make the charges cease.

Assuming this is honestly is a bogus charge, or if any other charges happen:
Close the bank account, open a new one. Make sure this includes all CCs.

Sucks, but it's what has to be done.

I know this is crazy, but it does say Amazon.COM, right? I harrassed Amazon.com for a week about a $10.00 charge until I realized that it was from a coffee house called "Amazon Coffee" that just showed up as "Amazon" on my statement.
