Some guy did some investigating regarding Amazon's best selling fat burner pills and the "glowing" 5-star reviews that it got. In a nutshell, some guy that works for Amazon violated several sections of the Amazon seller TOS asking for 5-star reviews in exchange for a free bottle of diet pills. Then, he sends customers out more "bribes" of free pills from different companies that he owns for more 5-star reviews.

If you ever was suspicious of fraudulent ratings on Amazon, then, you're probably right due to this guy's investigation. It's a long read but worth it.

If it were any other product I would say that its relative quality is what made millions and the bribes are just testimonials compensated in-kind. But diet pills are more likely to be either fraudulent or too dangerous to be worth it, so the payola is probably that much more problematic.

Xenitol is another product that has bogus reviews. Always read the 1 star reviews first

ehh this type of stuff is very common. For example, I am part of a pilot/beta test for a company that sells cell phone accessories. All I pay is $1 for the item and then they hound me for my review. Too many bad reviews and youre no longer invited. Their stuff isn't garbage, but its not really worth buying.

Guy works for amazon. Screams conflict of interest and I'm sure amazon is not happy about this making headlines. Hope they catch some heat.
