http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/12/18/knicks-assign-stoudemire-to-d-league/ I thought only rookies or players that barely played can go to the D league only.
He's not really assigned to D-league. Knicks aren't practicing in a few days so Woodson thought it would be a good idea for Stoudemire to have some workouts with the D league team. Woodson said that if he isnt sore after the workouts, then he is readyto return to play for the knicks
D-league system starting to be used like the minor league system is in baseball. Not quite like it but better than it was the last few years. A lot of the 1st rd picks have been sent down this year. It was an insult to be sent to the d-league two years ago.
Its like in baseball, after coming off a bad injury they play in the minors to get their way back to playing against the worlds best
Players with 3 or more years of NBA experience can be "assigned" to a team's D-League affiliate only with that player's consent. I'm guessing that Amare was on board with this move. Otherwise, he wouldn't be there.
He did have that brief time in NY where he put up monster #'s and was an MVP candidate, then Melo came.
The Knicks aren't practicing because of a heavy playing load, Amar'e needs practice time. It's a bit of a no-brainer really.
