McDonald's High School All-Star game is tonight and this figures to be huge in determining the draft status and stock of Amare Stoudemire.... Stoudemire gets a national showcase It says national TV audience .... anyone know what channel/time this is on tonight?
8 eastern / 7 central on ESPN. I'm there! Four Duke freshman playing! Here's the rosters. http://www.mcdonalds.com/countries/usa/sports/allamerican/boys/roster/index.html
Take a look at the alumni link from the above McDonald's High School link. It is pretty sobering. All the alumni never make it tothe NBA. For those that do, not all are stars (or even everyday players.)
Man, this is the first time I've seen Amare play, and so I can't be hasty. I also realize this is a joke of a game, but still, it irks me how he stands straight up the second a shot goes up. Feel free to crash the boards, Amare. Still a lot of game left.
As a group, I liked the Carolina recruits: Felton, McCants, and May. No size but great skills and feel for the game. Stoudemire has obviously been believing his high school press clippings. He is by no means ready for the NBA.
Yeah, it looks like the Duke-North Carolina Rivalry will be back in all its glory in at least two more years. And what about J.J. Reddick! He's going to be unbelievable at Duke. Led all scorers with 26 points.
Anthony was the man who caught my eye Half court bounce passes through traffic for a dunk- off the dribble are you kidding me? good defense, good hops, outstanding passer Write this down, this guy will be a franchise player
I didn't see much after the first half. I didn't realize that Reddick lit it up that much. He's just up the road from me about 2 hours at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, VA.
Totally agree. UNC got a really nice haul, I like their group more than I like Duke's. Please, please, please,....stay in school Amare and DeAngelo! These 2 aren't even ready for D1 ball, nevermind the NBA. Hopefully, this will be the first year in a while a HSer doesn't enter the draft.
I didn't see the game but had some suspicions when I read the Slam article and it stated his HS team was 7-5 at the time the article was written. 7-5 with an NBA ready player? There's something wrong with this picture. The only ways I can see Stoudamire being drafted by the Rockets are some of the following: 1) The Raptors make the playoffs and we get the #14 pick. 2) A player the Rocks really are impressed with accidentally falls into range and they can afford to gamble with #14. 3) Another team offers a lower pick and a proven vet for the #6 pick again allowing the Rocks to gamble at #14. or 4) The Raptors fail to make the playoffs but the Sonics send the #21 to the Raptors who offer to the Rocks and they use it on Stoudamire (assuming he falls that low and the Rocks will take on another guaranteed contract).
Just a question. If a high-schooler enters the draft, but does not get picked, can he still play basketball in college? Or only if he is not using an agent? If that is the case, as sad as it would be for that particular player, maybe that is something that needs to happen to make some of these high schoolers more wary of entering so early and more receptive of going to college.
No. Isn't it goofy. A guy already playing NCAA ball can declare without an agent and return to NCAA ball, but a high-school cannot delcare without an agent and EVER take the court. Where's the logic or decency?
Anthony and JJ Redick were the only players that I thought were close to NBA ready. Anthony more so than Redick, although neither would embarass themselves if they went pro. Stoudamire clearly did not dominate. He did show some flashes though. In particular, I was very interested on the play he lead the fast break, passed to the wing, got the ball back in the lane, and dunked without missing a step. His D is tough to evaluate since no D was played last night. His O needs work outside of 5' from the hoop. A year or two in college would help his game, but that may not be in the cards. Since Stoudamire did not embarass himself, he will likely go pro. His game now seems very similar to Stromile Swift, with a better upside. I suspect it will not be until his third pro season before he is a real contributor. He has too much to work now to be an immediate impact. Eddie Griffin and Stoudamire in a Houston front court may be very interesting five years out.
