I have to preface this by saying I'm a huge Letterman fan and think he was robbed of The Tonight Show, a job Carson wanted him to have. I've always liked Leno, but more as a guest back in the days before he got his own gig. What he still does, and does extremely well, are the "man/woman on the street" bits. What he gets people to say on camera is priceless (and frightening... are there really that many stupid people in America? I guess so!). So I don't dislike the fellow. I just much prefer Dave's kind of dry wit. That can simply be a matter of taste.

    Conan? Loved the Arnold flicks.

You should see Jay's Ethiopian equivalent. Those people living in huts are dumb and act like they have never seen a camera before.

Stern was doing this skit in the early 90's.

Maybe he was. I wasn't watching/listening to him, so I missed it. (no offense, but I'm not a fan of Howard Stern)

FX's 'Anarchy' is first basic cable series to beat Leno

For the first time, NBC's Leno experiment was beaten in the ratings by a non-sports program that wasn't airing on the Big Four networks.

FX's critically acclaimed outlaw motorcycle drama "Sons of Anarchy" bested "Leno Show" on Tuesday evening in the advertiser-coveted adult demo -- drawing a 2.05 rating among adults 18-49 to Leno's 1.8. "Anarchy" also topped ABC's "The Forgotten" (1.9).

The news comes as Leno's ratings continue to soften. Six weeks since his 10 p.m. debut, "Leno Show" hit a series low on Friday (1.2). Then episodes on Monday (1.4) and Wednesday (1.5) were the lowest yet for those respective nights, with Tuesday (1.8) matching its low.

NBC points out that recent baseball playoffs likely impacted Leno's ratings. But while "Leno Show" fell, some of NBC's 9 p.m. shows made gains. Tuesday's "Biggest Loser" and Wednesday's "Law & Order: SVU" hit season highs, yet didn't help Leno. That could be worrisome, since one of the positive signs about Leno's first few weeks at 10 p.m. was his ability to capitalize on a strong lead-in. The network notes that since "SVU" and "Loser" skew female, competitors airing baseball might have disproportionately helped the 9 p.m. shows by pre-empting some competition.

That FX was the channel to overtake Leno will surely please the network's showrunners, who had harsh words for Leno at the Television Critics Assn.'s press tour in July. NBC's move to replace its dramas with Leno rankled some in the entertainment industry, particularly TV writers.

...it doesnt make you a bad person.

    Some questions, however..

Is Mild Old El Paso salsa your favorite dip?
Do you think Miller Lite is just too hoppy?
Do you think Panda Garden is exotic food?

    :D

Do they even care about rating? Wasn't this just a pure financial play?

What gets me is when so many people believe that Jay's jokes are safe and conan is some edgier comedian. To me that's is the opposite. Conan isn't edgy at all. In fact if i remember right Jay, not conan, was the guy that gets most criticized for doing jokes in bad taste.

But I assume that by edgy you mean something to the effect that conan has the masturbating bear skit or something. That is not being edgy, by the way, that is just being ridiculous. Don't think for one minute that if jay wanted to pull a skit like that he couldn't do it. It is just not what he does.

I used to like conan when he first started out with Andy and they would do the staring contests and year 2000 stuff, but now conan is just way too predictable and less creative.

People with dad issues hate Leno.

Howard Stern routinely lambasting Leno ripping him to shreds also help sour his appeal to some.

I never saw reason love Leno, never saw reason to despise him either. Its like Dirk Nowitzki haters working extra time to convince everyone he's the worst piece of crap there is. Its like, I can see the points...but it TOOK that actual working extra hard to highlight the point. Extra work I dont CARE to do watching TV at 10:30 anyways.

My question is, why did he quit his late show and made a show similar to his late how, but a couple hours early then before? Was he forced out or something?

I hate Leno but....................... my dad had me smoking joints when I was 4-years-old and told me he didn't love me. :D

On a serious note, I don't truly hate Leno. I don't think anybody here literally hates him.

Personally, I just think he is completely untalented and not entertaining. Just like others here honestly don't like watching Conan, I honestly don't like watching Leno. I never have been able to watch an entire show. The only thing I've ever caught that I liked was the Jaywalking thing but that is basically a Q&A on the streets. It's easy to make people giving stupid answers funny and entertaining. Just about anybody could do what Leno does there.

Conan's sense of humor just happens to appeal to me. I feel that he can create comedy out of almost any situation. I find him witty, intelligent and original, even when he's doing goofy slapstick stuff.

Leno, on the other hand, needs good material and people behind the scenes in order to have any kind of success. Even when provided with good material, you have to hope he doesn't muff the delivery which happens frequently. He is also the master of uncomfortable moments during interviews, in my opinion. He is slow and poor at transitioning between topics. More often than not, I end up feeling sorry for him failing rather than being entertained when watching him tell jokes or conduct interviews.

The bottom line is to each his own... nobody should get offended by praise or criticism for either guy. Nobody is forcing any of us to watch either of them.

I dont even know what I meant by that, wasnt even serious... Just sounded like some fitting typical board sociologistic, pre-exsting underlying issues, the poster is at fault kinda crap to say

Right, also if Leno was solidly funny perhaps he wouldnt get the constant criticism of being unfunny. Basketball reference again, Larry Bird and Magic were great, no one took extra time to pick apart their game cuz their performance didnt warrant scrutiny. Where-as with Dirk...perhaaaaaps a little something there subtle but noticeable enough to sound off on. MYSELF maybe I wouldnt have extra concentration to notice but several millions others saying it cant be too wrong

His show was cancelled a while back I believe.

But this guy was a writer on Seinfeld for a few years. He wrote such classics as "Soup Nazi" and "The Muffin Tops"
