i'm torn but I want to make one point. After sitting through the post-Yao years and seeing the frontcourts we've trotted out, I am legitimately happy that we have a center who is effective enough that we have the luxury of debating whether or not we need Dwight Howard.

I love playing armchair GM but in this case, i'm glad Maurrey is the one who has to decide. My gut feeling: It's up to Howard. If he wants Houston, says the right things, and manages to look like a non d-bag this summer, Morey will get it done. He won't allow himself to be the GM that turned a willing Dwight Howard away.

I'd prefer Asik as well, he's got talent, potential, heart, and he's not a drama queen.

I would rather have Asik to be honest. I think he's earned his spot as our starting center.

Obviously, he still has room for improvement, but I thought he had a pretty solid season overall and he's only going to get better.

There's also the issue of Howard being such a distraction while Asik is way more of a team player who always goes to bat for his teammates.

I'd rather get another forward before I would another center.

Lakers didn't win anything with Howard, in fact they got their asses handed to them with Howard. It's not Asik vs Howard, it's Asik+something else over Howard and losing something else...because Asik costs half what Howard costs we add can something to the team with the money we'd have paid Howard. In Howard's case since he costs double what Asik costs currently we'd have to dump some contracts to afford him.

They could clear enough space to sign Howard by simply trading Robinson for a draft pick.

It's also not really "Asik+something else over Howard and losing something else". While Howard does make more money than Asik, acquiring Howard frees us to use Asik in a trade to acquire a PF.

So really it's Asik + whichever PF you can sign in free agency
    vs
Howard and whichever PF you can acquire in a trade featuring Asik.

Taking it one step farther, in Morey's latest radio interview he said that if we couldn't acquire at least an all-star level player then we'd likely sign a player on a 1 year contract and then try for a FA again in 2014. Based on that it then becomes:

Asik + 1 year rental vs Howard + whatever PF you can get for Asik.

I'm sorry, I was torn but after seeing that Dwight was no.1 being the PnR roll man, there is no doubt he is going to be a very good fit here. Harden and Lin are both great PnR players. Asik won't ever get there. I wouldn't trade Asik just yet because we don't know if Howard is fully healthy or not.

roll your eyes all you want but he stuggles underneath the basket because there are guys smaller than him that can get to higher levels then he can.. dwight is 6'11" and can dunk on a 12 foot goal.. he can get up above people trying to block him and is so strong down low that if you try to stop him youre going along for a ride.. asik not so much..

asik grabs so many offensive boards, but its fools gold because he gives the ball right back..
