I just saw a picture of Britney Spears during her VMA performance, on the Late Night with Conan Obrien. What the heck was she thinking??? She looks horrible

if by "keeping viewers from being bored" you mean "viewers wanted to gouge their eyes out", then yes, they did a good job.

I guess so. I saw that there was a video of it on youtube that was taken down, so I assumed it would be better than that, but oh well. Neither one of those guys wanted to fight. You can act as tough as you want when you have someone pretending to hold you back.
I guess i'm in the minority here but I kind of liked the new hostless format they went with this year. I don't watch much MTV but I usually end up catching the VMA's every year and I found that the previous shows had become very stale, predictable and just overall not very interesting. Those new party room "suites" or whatever seemed to have a lot of action and some cool performances. Seemed to keep people interested and not knowing what to expect. As for the performances, sure Britney was a disaster. You could tell she was drunk, high or both. She looked bored, immobile and oblivious to how obvious her lip syncing is. She looked like she was trying to whisper the lyrics. Seriously, i'm amazed she's been able to get away with it all these years. Does she not realize her "live" performances sound EXACTLY like she does on the radio? EXACTLY! If you're going to lip sync you should at least record a different sounding version to perform to. She has nobody to blame other than herself. There were numerous reports saying that she showed up to rehearsals trashed and wasn't taking the performance seriously. Her career's about over. She would probably be better off in p*rn. Chris Brown's performance was awesome. I don't care that he was lip syncing. The kid's dancing looked like a cross between Usher, Michael Jackson and common break dancing. Singing live and moving the way he was at the same time is nearly impossible so I don't care. He was entertaining and most definitely worth watching. Rihanna is kind of ehh whatever. She performed that same annoying "Umbrella" song again just like she did at the Video Awards. She looks good but I don't think she's really anything special as a singer. Seems like MTV is trying to make her the new Beyonce or something. Alicia Keys was good. So were Fall Out Boy and the Foo Fighters. I thought the closing act was kind of lame though. Nelly Furtado, Timbaland and Timberlake were alright but most of the performances in the middle of the show were so good that you expected the closing performance to be something special and it really wasn't.
I can't wait for the behind the scenes for the 07 VMAs...I want to see the moron who put Tommy Lee and Kid Rock together if he hasn't already been fired. It could be the same guy who booked Fatney.
I'm starting to look at Britney's performance from a different perspective. Perhaps she went out and tanked on purpose? There's no way she would have gotten this much press if she had put on a good show.
