What was the age of the people that lived there? Old people don't visit their attics very often. You are an ass for not contacting them, no matter how long it was (or how old they are). That property does not belong to you.
That's hilarious. Those people had a lot of nerve to ask for that. Why don't they just take the grass while their at it?
WHAT AN ASS!!!! j/k. Well, seriously, I would've tried contacting the people if I had found it up there. Hell I probably would've just left the crap up there. lol. No way would I have sold them, though.
That would have been the polite and right thing to do. So many here are like screw'm, but if the shoe was on the other foot... Of course, they think they would never forget about the stuff in the attic. They probably moved much or had much to move (I thought you got the attic stuff! No, I was watching the kids!!). Have you made any sillier mistakes? Anyone have elderly parents that might do something similar? I hope ya'll find someone more gracious to help you out when you screw up, because we all will.
I gotta disagree with you Bob*. Most house contracts state that all items on the property are owned by the buyer upon closing of the contract. That property did belong to him. In our case, the previous owner left a washer and dryer (very nice, high dollar ones, not junk). She got the house in her divorce settlement, but had not been living here for 9 months. We were up front with the agent, telling him the washer and dryer were still here on a number of occasions. No response came from the lady (we never saw her face to face.) Finally, two weeks after closing, the ex-husband called to say he had just found out about the sale and wanted his washer and dryer back. It seems him and the ex wife did not speak and she did not tell him about the sale. He seemed genuinely upset over possibly losing his washer and dryer, so we let him take it back.
Per Fatty Fat b*stard: "My father last purchased a house in 1987. The old owners came back a few months later and asked if they could grab a few sentimental things from the backyard. My Dad, being the good-natured person he is, allowed them to get what they "forgot." They came back a couple more times with the same excuse. When they finally came back and asked for the greenhouse, my father told them to go to hell. You did nothing wrong. Give them back what you still have. After all, you bought the property with everything included." I bought a house in Sugarland several years ago and lived there for 2 years. It seemed like a good idea at the time as I had a project in that area and thought I would save money purchasing. Point being - the people I bought it from had left these big cast concrete lions sitting by the front door. They were the size of German shepherds. My wife hated them, but the house was nice-nice neighborhood, nice yard-wife loved the home. We had been there a year and we got a call from the realtor -the sellers - previous owner wanted the lions. My wife hated them and had been after me to get rid of them. They were so heavy Iwas foing to borrow a forklift form work to load them on a heavy truck. The people came with a rented forklift and picked up these lions. My wife was happy, but I could not even look the couple in the eye-I was afraid I would laugh. Anyway -BEHAd you are not an ass. People are so lazy and strange. __________________
