i would rather sign horry and juwan with our mle than sign landry. Then ,if les is not willing to pay the luxury tax i suggest morey sign deke with a contract less than mle yet more than lle.
Someone like elson would provide the rebounding left behind by deke. he dosent come close to the interior defensive aspect of deke's game though, but who is left on the market does?. as for mourning? i think he's not coming back. Alston/Brooks Tracy/Barry Battier or artest Scola/Landry Yao/Elson/Dorsey
I dont care to sign any off those guys. I now have to much faith in our gm to believe he would settle for any of them either. If it becomes impossible for landry to be signed for anything less than the full exception before camp, we sign him to what he wants and trade him for a backup center. No reason to lose a asset. You restrict a player for a reason.
I concur. Once preseason hits then I would be willing to look at other options. It a chance I would take considering that most of those chumps would be gone by then.
Landry we need because he brings something none of our other pf options, the ability to shoot. Dorsey can do everything that Deke can do, except hit free throws, which I believe he will improve. If we don't sign Deke, I will be okay with Dorsey as the backup center. I'm not ok with Dorsey or Hayes as the only options at backup pf. Landry is still very important to this team. Deke is not.
Can we at least get a backup C who can catch a pass and finish without taking half an hour to gather himself before going up to the rim?
Who knows...maybe Dr. Morey has another trade up his sleeve to bring in a big instead of picking from that scrap heap. I want Landry back.....Deke? Not so much (if we can find a better option).
I think Landry need to be signed. As for Deke, I hope he can come back as an assistant coach c*m player so that he would not occupied one of our roster space. Then we should sign Elson. If Yao or Elson is injured, Deke will become a player so Deke can be our second insurance.
Landry and Elson. It is well past time for Mutombo to retire and let younger players learn the game . Elson would be good enpugh to back up Yao ! We must have Landry back on our roster! Mutombo could be on the staff as Coach and administrator, just incase he needs to be signed for the playoffs.
Why?.... Zo was the heart and soul of the Heat's championship run. I would scoop up Zo in a second. If nothing else, Dorsey could learn alot from Zo or Deke.
We need Deke more than we need Landry. We are ok at PF. Scola will have a full year to play next to Yao. People forget Hayes use to be the starter and we had the best (+) to (-) ratio in the league with him in the starting lineup. Dorsey will give you good minutes and we can also play small ball with Battier or Artest getting spot minutes at the 4. I would love to have Landry back at the right price. But I don't want to give a guy who only played half a season and who game fell off after the knee injury alot of money. If it comes to him wanting too much I say let him walk. Backup C is the most important thing. We need a guy with height(atleast 6'11 or taller) who can play d, hustle and catch in traffic and dunk. I thought of Morning a while back but felt like he was not going to come back and isn't he still under contrct with the Heat? If Deke can't be resigned, I say go for Elson, or Jeff Foster from Indy. Foster probably could be had for Head, Novak, TE and 2010 2nd round pick.
Same here. I love Landry, but his agent's holdout of this seemingly simple situation is getting on my nerves. Landry's energy and athleticism will be missed, but there are plenty of alternatives out there. Lets not forget that we have a similar player in Dorsey, who while may not have any shooting abilities like Landry, he makes up for it with his athleticism, hustle, and defense (an aspect that Landry has not been very proficient at yet). Plus, this new guy that we recently added, by the name of Ron Artest, gives us so many possibilities not on the court, but personnel choices.
This thread only reinforces our need to resign Carl and Deke. I do not want to settle for some washed-up players.
We had a thread like this a week or so ago, but I enjoy conversation. I think u get 2 and get rid of 3. Don't believe the Theo injury notion the las couple of years. I've talked to Kenny Smith on more than a few occasions, and he said on rebuilding teams, mgmt doesn't like to play the veterans so they don't get hurt and hurt the trade value and fear of increasing the win total. That's why these guys get released then picked up and not injured. I would get a combo of Theo and Elson or theo and brown or even Kandi in the mix. I think u get a guy like elson that can play 4/5, as well as Theo who can do the same, as too pj. Kandi and Magliore are 5's. So u can get Magloire or Kandi to backup yao for 15-17 mins per and get elson to back up Scola. Any way it goes, I think they need 2 and let landry and deke walk and trade hayes.
