Propel is good, but the problem is if you replace soda with propel, it costs a lot more money. The stuff is not cheap...probably a 6-pack for more than the price of a 12 pack of cokes. What i've done in the past to stop drinking cokes is at first limit myself to one per day...then go to one per week...besides that just drink water. After a while you'll stop craving them as much. Right now i usually have about one coke per day.
then you just need to reprogram yourself to like water, it's not like it's something you can't do. I used to hate water, and actually gag while attempting to drink it, with the lone exception of after manual labor. But after I was stuck in the hospital for a while and they only allowed me water ... it tasted good and I lost that gag reflex for good. One suggestion some had on the board before(though I don't like it) is squeezing some lemon into the water to give it taste. I assume that could work with other citrus as well. And if you want to lose weight, there is no real alternative to water. Ditto for the $$$.
Are there weight loss implications to giving up diet cokes? I realize that they have no calories, but does the carbonation/sugar have any impact on weight gain/loss?
Coincidentally, I just quit sodas and tea a month ago Reasons I quit: I was addicted to caffeine and needed to get off it they have a ton of sugar I'm trying to bleach my teeth and needed to quite dark liquids there's zero nutritional value in soda caffeine made me pee a lot and I ended up being dehydrated caffeine messed with my sleep schedule There's no real answer to this problem - here are alternatives with pros and cons: Diet 7up - Saccharin leaves a nasty aftertaste and is very bad for you. No nutrition. Lemonade - Tons of sugar Water - cheap and good for body, but not much nutrition and very bland Kool-aid - tons of sugar The only thing I have come up with that's actually nutritious, isn't addicting, isn't packed with sugar, won't stain your teeth, doesn't have caffeine, and tastes decent is V8 juice. Only problem with it is, it's not as cheap as water and isn't available in restaurants. You may be able to cut the cost down by making your own batch of V8 juice I'm thinking about trying a homemade V8 recipe. If you come up with any good ones, post 'em! -- droxford
oh.... and skim milk. But after drinking milk and water for a while, I really start craving something else. -- droxford
One of my new favorites that is helping a lot is Iced green tea... what?! I live in an Asian household. Southern Tradition Iced Tea + Asian Tradition Green tea _____________________ Iced Green Tea.
With caffine -tea (w/sweetner) -diet vanilla coke (not too bad) -pepsi one -coffee (if forced in a restaruant sometimes Diet Coke or worse, Diet Pepsi--sometimes better than water though) Without caffine -herbal tea (sometimes you can get this in sit down resteruants) -diet root beer -those Sams Club/Safeway/Albertsons lightly carbonated artificial fruit flavored drinks in the 20oz bottle (I live off these things at home--Cranberry is usually the best) Some times I splash the above with real fruit joice or a little bit of real Coke, etc, to enhance flavor either at home or a fast food place where you get your own drinks Sugar water is the devil!!!!
i dont know why, but i never ever liked carbonated drinks and soda pop. i was always a milk, juice, iced tea guy, coffee (all at once) guy. dunno about the weight thing, but ive never been fat. I am waiting for the day when we find out that coke gives you cancer and i'll be one of the last few people alive. but until then, all of you people are great.
I've been on the atkins diet since march and what I drink is basically this. Crystal Light (the tea goes well with most meals) Sugar Free Kool-Aid (good as a stand alone or with a snack) Sugar Free Tang (good for OJ substitute) Diet Slice & Diet 7up (best taste of all diet drinks, and NO caffiene, which is very helpful on a diet) and when I really want something good.. Diet Vanilla Pepsi (has a lot of caffiene ) getting off of milk was hard to do, but now I just find myself drinking a little bit of half & half with a bagel in the morning or with some granola cereal.. no biggie.. all of those things combined have kept me off of the soda wagon for a while.
I would say iced tea. I don't drink a lot of sodas and I really need to cut down on drinking the beer.
Hehe...right here. I really didn't like water either when I was drinking nothing but soda. After a while of drinking it, water began tasting pretty good. I don't know how since it really doesn't have any taste, but I like it. Some weird things that have happened is that I have had dreams where I pop open a can of RC Cola, pour it into a glass full of ice, and drink it all. I kind of have that taste in my mouth. Then I get mad for breaking my vow of no sodas. After I wake up, I realize it was all a bad dream. As for my body, I haven't noticed to much of a difference. I guess since I'm still young, I make plenty of energy that I don't need from caffeine.
A-Train, shut yo mouth. skim milk is the greatest thing there is. protein, vitamin d or something, and calcium w/o many calories and it does have a taste. i can't stand any milk over 1/2%. about 3 years ago i had a streak of about 8 months where i didn't have soft drink but then i eventually started back on them, though not too much. then i discovered that diet drinks taste good, especially diet big red, this semester. i was drinking them like crazy, 3 or 4 until i realized how much trouble it was giving me trying to go to sleep. i was only getting like 6 hours a night and couldn't seem to get more. so now it's been about a month since i've touched one. all i drink now is skim milk and water. though it's mostly water, whereas it used to be mostly skim milk during that 8 month stretch. as for an alternative besides those, Lipton Lemon Flavored Diet Tea. stuff is great. the non diet version i'm convinced is laced with crack. my family discovered it this summer and we had to make a half gallon pitcher each day for the 4 of us or we would run out. the diet version doesn't have quite the same taste but it's definitely good and has 5 calories in a cup.
