iTunes has a lossless setting that sounds MUCH better. You just have to adjust it and deal with the much larger file size.
LOL! It's not quite important enough to go in the sig BTW, arkoe has a point -- WMP 10 is actually pretty decent. I still prefer Media Player Classic, but WMP 10 is actually really good if you use all its features. Still not feeling WMV though, and since you can't play Ogg in WMP (well, you can, but can't add it to the Media Library, which is a big part of WMP), I don't have much use for it.
AH! people can't hear me when I speak and person, and apparently they can't read what I type either. oh well it doesn't stop me from mumbling under my breath in person, it won't stop me from posting...!
That's precisely why I'm looking for an alternative. I could live with the latest version, but it causes problems on my machine. With that news, which is what I was talking about when I said that "it appears Nullsoft is basically dead," I don't expect a fix for the problems I'm having with version 5.05 anytime soon -- if ever. If it weren't for the problems I'm having with it, version 5.05 would be perfect. I don't really like the older versions as much; I like having the media library.
That's kind of what I thought when I read your first post. After all, in my original post, I said, "it appears that Nullsoft is basically dead. AOL let go all but a few people on the Nullsoft team."
i always used winamp since i can remember but i switched to itunes when i got an ipod and i actually thought it sounded better! maybe it's cause my speakers are crappy but oh well i like it.
Foobar is good, it uses less system resources and has the ability to set global hotkeys to control playing when it's minimized. Else, Winamp 2.X is still better than Winamp 3 and above.
sorry to dredge up the dead. I've been using foobar for the last year plus and its an amazing piece of software! found this thread on an unrelated search and (as a long time member here) felt compelled to endorse foo. the OP has probably moved on but if you're looking for a player; that will manage a large library replace itunes play multitudes of digital formats leave a small footprint (relative to windoze itunes) is very configurable and is actively being developed by folks enthusiastic about music ... well, i could go on but it does everything the OP wanted + everything mentioned as optional.
dude, foobar was mentioned in the 2nd post. in fact, it was mentioned many times! and with something like this, it's ok to post a new thread!
sorry again. I didn't see all the replies from my search. if it's all redundant mods please feel free to delete. regards
I've been using foobar2000 for the last 7 years. Never got any problem and the best is you can customize it in any way you want (it's a little hard, but there are great tutorials on the internet) You can go from the most simple look to this (i've been using this for the last 3-4 years)
