signin dewayne bowe is out of question even if we free up cap space by not resigning mario williams and cutting jacoby/leinert...he will return to kansas city...

Also alshon will be gone by the time we pick at 27...

We also need a corner and his teammate stephon gilmore may be there ....we havent had success drafting corners in 1st rd(see kareem) but i think gilmore is solid...

Free agent wide reciever i would recomend is someone like brandon lloyd or eddie royal...while still drafting a wide reciever... we dont have to sign a wide reciever who can return kicks also as we can get a cheap returner in the later rounds of the draft....

If alshon drops to 27 definatly take him...i say take they best player of need available...

i think it will be one of the following players...

1st round who to pick if still on board in order of preference
    1-Mark Barron - S - Alabama
    2-Stephon Gilmore - CB - S.Carolina
    3-Dontari Poe - NT - Memphis Nick Toon - WR - Wisconsin
    4-Kendall Wright - WR - Baylor
    5-Nick Toon - WR - Wisconsin

2nd round who to pick up if still there
    1-Jared Crick - DT - Nebraska
    2-Jayron Hosley - CB - Virgina Tech
    3-Jamell Fleming - CB - Oklahoma
    4-Chase Minnifield - CB - Virginia Tech
    5-Sylvester Williams - NT - North Carolina

I know alot of you are thinking im emphasizing defense too much considering we have a great defense... But great football teams strengthen thier strengths constantly.... and we could use upgrades at CB,NT,SS....

he has played admirably... but he has given up some big plays... why, you could always blame that on the corner i seen him being late on over the top coverage... all that being said he is definatly the last of needs... i place WR,CB,NT,RT all as areas of bigger needs... but if you could get the best safety in this years draft at #27(and its possible) i say take him...i list him as first because i like him alot as a player and with all the mock drafts ive seen they have him hanging around in the late 1st rd...

Big plays to whom? He wasn't beat deep very often. He held his own vs some really good TEs. His work on Jermaine Gresham (him and Manning) was some of the best work you'll see. He gave up basically a jump ball to Jimmy Graham, who can't be dealt with. Our DBs are a corner away from being possibly the best.

i agree... and my post had not so much to do with glovers play as it did draft position and players available...

i still think we should draft the best player available... and if mark barron(the best safety in this years draft) is available i say draft him...

Also if we draft a CB or WR in the first round there will be pressure for him to step into the #2 spot...But if we draft barron theres no pressure he learns the games from the bench and special teams and becomes a beast in a year or two... late 1st rd picks are similiar to 2nd rounders they should start of role players not starters...Brooks Reed was a very good role player untill injurys and he happened to strive fantastically...WE are contenders now and we have to draft like it...All the tops teams draft solid players at the end of the round despite if its an immediate need or not.... take the best available...

    26. New York Giants: Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State
Defensive tackle is definitely not one of the Giants' greatest needs, but that doesn't matter to Jerry Reese, who prefers taking the best player available and certainly is no stranger to selecting a talented defensive lineman in the NFL Draft.

Fletcher Cox, 18th on the consensus big board, should have gone a lot earlier than this, so he presents great value at No. 26.

Pick change; previously Lamar Miller, RB

    27. Houston Texans: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
I asked this question in my 2013 NFL Mock Draft: How long is Gary Kubiak going to make us fantasy football owners suffer through Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones? The Texans really need an upgrade across from Andre Johnson.

This is a pretty easy pick. Alshon Jeffery is the top player on the board and happens to fill a huge need.

Pick change; previously Mohamed Sanu, WR

    28. San Francisco 49ers: Kendall Wright, WR/KR, Baylor
Braylon Edwards was brought in as a deep threat, but was a big disappointment. The 49ers don't need a receiver with Josh Morgan coming back and Kyle Williams emerging, but it wouldn't hurt to add someone with talent at the position. Kendall Wright definitely has talent; he's the top prospect remaining on the board.

Pick change; previously Zach Brown, OLB

if alshon drops this far im POSITIVE we would draft him...i think he will increase his stock at the combine dramatically tho with his measurables...dude is a freak athlete...

To be honest if alshon drops to the early twenties i see our front office trading up to get him...

The Senior Bowl and the practices leading up to it should be interesting. At wide receiver the roster will include:
    Joe Adams - Arkansas / 5-11 - 190 ( I think he can return kicks)
    Jeff Fuller - Texas A&M / 6-4 - 220
    T.J. Graham - NC State / 6-0 -180
Dwight Jones - North Carolina / 6-4 225 (Will he get Yates' seal of approval?)
    Marquis Maze - Alabama / 5-10 - 180 (A great college returner)
    Marvin McNutt - Iowa / 6-4 - 215
    DeVier Posey - Ohio State / 6-2 - 210
    Nick Toon - Wisconsin / 6-3 - 220 (Really interested in him)
    Kendall Wright - Baylor / 5-10 190 (Explosive player)

i know people aren't happy with Kareem, but I don't see any way/chance that the texans draft a CB in the first couple of rounds, or any secondary player for that matter. They'd have to really fall in love with someone.

I do think we'll be seeing another TE drafted this year.

Jeffrey in the 1st just scares me. I think he's going to have a hard time creating separation in the NFL. I think they could find a WR later that could produce just as much as him..personally I think Juron Criner could be better and had much later in the draft.

Ryan Broyles is coming off an ACL injury - should be available in the 3rd round.

    Jeffery at 6-4 with a 4.55 40
    or
    Wright smallish at 5-10 but with a 4.40 40

Personally, I'd prefer the speed and explosiveness. I'd kill for a fly route guy. Stretch the field and punish any DC for cheating his safeties forward on Foster.

BUT...BUT...BUT...how will noodle arm Schaub get him the ball?!

I like Alshon, but I think he'll go top 20 once the combines are held. Wright I get the feeling will be taken a few picks before the Texans get to draft unless they trade up to get him. In all honesty, this year's draft has some good talent in the WR department so I wouldn't be too disappointed missing out on AJ. Sure if you draft a WR later you might not get a franchise cornerstone like AJ's been, but there are plenty of strong WR #2s available that should help out in the short term and be good complementary players in the long term.

I agree with this completely. He's going to blow up in the combine. I think he's going to end up the second receiver taken, after Blackmon.

I used to love the pre-draft speculation of the offseason, but have now grown to despise the futility of it. Take a look at pretty much every draft the Texans have ever had. When has it ever been a player anyone on these boards wanted, let alone even the same POSITION? The last time I remember immediate positional needs being addressed in the 1st round, we acquired Duane Brown and Kareem Jackson--and boy, do I remember how everyone here and at TT were pissed/flustered/befuddled/discombobulated etc. by BOTH picks. Brown turned out great, jury's still out (IMO) on KJ.

Let's just take a backseat and not get TOO invested in any one player, because the chance that the Texans FO's thinking is congruent with someone on these boards is exceptionally slim.

I don't think Kendall Wright is a Texans kind of receiver. I don't know how willing of a blocker he is, but he just looks too small to be any good at it. If I'm predicting, I think they'll get Nick Toon.

I've been on the Nick Toon bandwagon since November. I'd love a trade down and get Toon in round 2 (if possible).

When the combine hits, watch for those "unknown" WRs.

To be fair Falcons had to play Saints and Panthers twice. We lost to both teams.

I'm not discrediting them. They have a solid D. Just saying ours is better. ATL's issue this year wasn't really defense. They (like I alluded to) were extremely bi-polar on offense all year.

Not only that, they won fewer games, scored fewer points and won the same number of playoff games. WRs are big and flashy but never worth additional resources. The Falcons will regret the Jones trade for years.
