I gotta admit Tari has been the biggest surprise in the positive direction so far this year. He's currently playing 22mpg and he's always been a low minutes guy dating back to college, but he can mantain mostly this level of play at around 28mpg, he will definitely be worth a slightly-below Sengun level extension. Maybe 5yr/$150. And be a 3rd/4th guy on a championship level team. Unfortunately this team still lacks a clear #1. So yeah, here's hoping Amen learns to shoot or Reed learns to put his shooting to use. Otherwise we've seen the Jalen-led offense for 3+ years and it has yet to be a pretty sight.
Surely this is a trend that will be broken at some point this season and they will get hot to get their % up to last season.... right???
Hopefully. Practicing corner threes might help. If there is one thing I miss from PJ Tucker - his corner threes were money. Only Tari hits them at a decent clip now...maybe Dillon.

Jabari lights it up in practice by all accounts. He's just a mentally weak player when it's game time, that's all it is.

Things like this about Udoka make me raise eyebrows. There is hardly any systematic change/improvement on our offense since he started. We depend on Sengun having a mismatch, Green or Fvv going off or the hustle guys being league best.

From what I can tell, Ime is really comfortable making switches in game, but doesn't like making changes to the starting lineup based on a small amount of data that is ever changing. Mostly, this is about managing people. A lot of coaches across several sports don't react to small samples that could just be hot and cold streaks when setting starting lineups. I doubt this is a front office thing. I think this is all on Ime, and, as you put it, he is not taking the decision to bring Jabari off the bench lightly. I expect Ime still thinks Jabari will be a shooter. Also, the starting lineup is working. It is generally that the fewer starters Jabari plays with, the Rockets get worse quicker than with any of the other starters playing with the same amount of bench players. This makes the decision to play Jabari off the bench tough.
They made Amen and Bari shooting those corner threes and they are neither very good shooters nor in midseason form. I agree Sengun, Tari and Amen are the core pieces of this team going forward. That being said, as much as I like Sengun as a player, his lack of killer instincts is a huge problem. He had mismatches all yesterday night and he didn't demand the ball; he waited until Ime to call a timeout to call out teammates to give him the ball. I'm unsure if that was due to language barriers or culture, but comparing to Jokic, Jokic demanded the ball 99% of the time when he had a mismatch. Even the possessions Sengun ended up passing up the ball in the last few seconds, many of them were open 3s. Unable to knock down open shots was not Sengun's problem, not demanding the ball when he has a mismatch is totally on him.
