My Core is based on potential and how hard it is to replace a guy. First Tier (not trading) Sengun, Amen. These players are hard to replace. A High post offensive anchor and low post big. Not even 5 of these guys in the NBA. As for Amen...what even is this guy? There is one Amen in the NBA, he dominates games while scoring like 13 points. Second Tier (Would trade if getting star player back) Tari, Bari. These guys are easier to replace, there are a lot of stretch bigs right now, they are pricey for sure but you can find them. Lots of three and D guys too like Tari, but I still want to keep these guys. Third Tier (Would look at trading) Jalen Green and Cam. Jalen could turn into an all-star some day, he has the talent, but I Feel like the team can win games without his production and they have been doing just that. He's 22, trade value is probably still high because of that. If a star asks out I'm offering them Jalen and Cam and a pick and not looking back. Cam just because I don't think Ime likes the guy tbh. ??? Reed is a rookie and so its hard to judge. I still like his potential though.
It’s worth pointing out that the core prospects that have actually had to earn their minutes (Sengun, Tari and Amen) are much better than the higher drafted prospects that had their minutes handed to them (Jalen and Bari).
This is true for interior linemen in the Kubes system since the 90s. Just in case Nick Caserio is surfing the Rockets threads.
Kind of a weird thing to post after Bari just had a fantastic game. Frankly, he’s been pretty awesome for a while now, averaging basically 15/8 over the prior 7 games or so while shooting 50% from 3. Conversely, Eason has put up two stinkers in a row.
Thompson was the 4th overall pick, not some hidden gem we found later in the draft. The Rockets were going to give him every chance to succeed. You aren't the first person to think of him that way either, I see it a lot.
I totally disagree. This board just significantly underrates Bari’s impact because he’s not flashy. He 100% goes top 5 in a redraft.
1). J Will 2). Paolo 3). Chet 4). Sharpe 5). Tari it’s unclear where Bari, Mathurin, Murray, Sochan rank. And for the record there’s a lot I appreciate about Bari but I don’t see him being what we hoped when we drafted him.
For one, Bari goes about Tari still. People are getting way ahead of themselves in that regard. Bari also goes above Sharpe. Sharpe really hasn't been that good -- he's been inefficient this season AND poor defensively. Bari's skillset is way more valuable.
maybe Bari goes #5, maybe not. It’s certainly not the same thing as Jalen I’ll grant you. But ideally you want your #3 pick to be a max extension guy and Bari isnt gonna be anywhere near that. Then again, with that Jalen extension…
This is exactly how I would rate our guys. What's fantastic is the top four guys you mention all fit really well together. I also think your plan is sound -- wait until this offseason package Green and Cam for an upgrade. Their contracts combined total something like 37 mil, which is perfect for a trade.
yes but the case can obviously be made for Chet or Paolo as well. I think there’s a significant drop off after those 3
Again, as I said, I think Bari goes fourth after Paolo, Chet, and JWill, which isn't exactly awful considering we took him third. And yeah, he's not getting a "max" extension, but if he keeps playing this well, he'll get a pretty darn big one. Something in the neighborhood of Jalen Johnson's contract.
This is it right here. We live in a highlight era where most people aren't watching the whole game. Hence everyone loves Jalen Green. Cuz he has top 10 highlights but can't do any of the small stuff. Jabari on the other hand is not flashy at all, just does what needs to be done and people already want to write him off as bust when he's been a plus player for us lately. I have way more hopes of Jabari turning around than Jalen. Still wish rockets would feature him more in offense. Yesterday he was on shot 8-9 from field but somehow didn't seem like he took a single shot in second half until overtime. It's like we don't want him to play well so we can sign him to a cheaper extension because the team freezes him out of games he's playing well in,
I completely agree that they need to feature him more on offense. I also don't buy into the idea professed often on this board that Bari has no creation ability. Look at the Clippers game -- he had a couple of beautiful dribble-drive-pull up possession. I have no idea how you're supposed to guard that.
Honestly it doesn't even matter if he has a bag. If we truly want him to be Klay Thompson. He just needs to run off a guard pick catch it and raise up and shoot. No guard can contest his pull up. Should be easy offense.
Completely agree, especially if Sengun and Amen are going to be our primary offensive pillars. If you designed a player in a lab to fit perfectly with Amen and Sengun, that player would look a lot like Bari — a tall offball spacer and switchable defender.
