Ask that question to @punter and terror trips this. Because honest expression that disrespects no one is not allowed on this site. The arguing to the bitter end to defend a point that is based on fallacy. This needs to be dealt with.

What data? Lol one metric? Do you even understand what data is? What is analysis? You have not yet intelligently explained to me what plus minus measures and why this is the only indicator or measure of player performance. One metric. Just like the stupid 3 assists argument. One data point (which I proved was flawed). I ask you again what is plus minus and why are you only using one metric to determine player performance? Why do you never analyze what actually happened in the game? Truth is you don’t understand what you watch do you? That video you posted was completely inaccurate.

Really cool app I saw on twitter just now (https://databallr.com/wowy), here's an example of what it does. It's fun to play around with. Posting this here because I think I will get called names if I posted it in any other thread.

Alpi is the engine of plus lineups in our team. Data matches unbiased eye tests.

I miss the behind the back no look passes. Feel like he hasn’t done many of those the last two seasons. :(

nba teams are billions worth and the nba can't do a simple app/user interface like this. It is just the visual format of the x-man lay up thing but it is of course much easier to use. Instead they just keep making the all star weekend worse.

Cool stuff. But you have to take these 3-man w/wo metrics with a grain of salt. They don't account for who the other two players were and what lineups (starters/bench players) they played against.

I find it interesting that several people posted similar kind of stats and each of them seemed to show that lineups with Amen weren't the best defensive units.

Well of course they don't account for the other two players. That's the entire point of this concept of a three man lineup (or 2 man lineup, or 4 man lineup), it includes all 5 man lineups that include these three players. I don't see how that means we have to take it "with a grain of salt." I think it does a good job of showing what it's supposed to show.

The problem with using 3-man lineups to compare the results of with/without one or two of the players is that when that one or two players aren't in the lineup, the other unaccounted two players might be completely different guys. And those different guys might have meaningful contributions, positively or negatively, to the results. So you end up comparing orange with apple (or probably tangerine in this analogy).

I don’t think the 3 or 4 man line up has a lot of meaning. In the end the goal is to identify the most effective 5s. when you show me a 3 man line up, the first question I ask is which 5 s contributed to their 3 man line up most? So I have to go back to 5 man lineups anyway.

A common misusage of 3 or 4 man line ups is stating a player is very important because he is in 4 of the best 5 lineups etc. which usually is just choosing different combinations from the best 5 man line ups.

I love it when Alpi plays like...Alpi? When he's playing with creativity and confidence, he pulls tricks out of his bag that I legit have never seen. I understand that the Pelicans are not exactly a tough opponent, but as someone who has felt like Alpi's more unique traits have been sort of been stifled all season, it was so cathartic to see him pick NOLA apart with his passing and scoring.

    That was fun as hell!
